I've never understood why the state required fenders. What's it to them - other than they have the inherent need to regulate anything we do.

In Virginia, they require outside door handles - so they can get into your car and save your six in case of an emergency. Nevermind that most new cars automatically lock the doors when you move, rendering the outside door handle useless.Jack

 Thanks Mike.

I guess the fender thing goes back to when they were called "mud Guards." On the old roads, and cars like Model A's, they kept mud and stones from being tossed onto the cars behind you, I think. Like most laws, once they are on the books it is almost impossible to get them back off. As for hood laws, who knows, maybe a safety thing with the fan spinning around or something.

Also, when it rains the tires throw off an awful lot of spray which affects following driver visibility. We got the mandatory fender requirement dropped here in Wa. a few years ago, but the new law permitting fenderless cars stipulates that you park the car (safely) wherever you are the moment that rain begins to fall. That moment is up to the local lawman's discretion.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Now try to explain that to one of them professional politician dudes!!!! He'll have to ask his driver about it!!!!! Maybe people should actually have to know something about the subject they write laws governing!!!! My Sons used to build lowrider S10 pickups, airbagged. Dan would get stopped all the time because his was too low. (what is "too low"??) One time a local lady cop pulled him over for that reason, and he asked her what the statue was, so she said "let me find out." When she turned and walked back to her car he hit the up buttons and put it super high. When she came back she was all confused that it now seemed to be normal, and let him go.

Another time they were driving back across the State from a playing gig in West Palm at about 3 AM. A cop did a u turn and stopped them because they were driving the speed limit ! He told them they must be up to something because "nobody drives the speed limit on this road."

It seems the cops single out the younger drivers, while us older guys get a thumbs up from them when driving our rods. I hope they still think that way, especially about baffled headers. lol

I know several thousand teachers that would agree with that! Originally Posted by Dave Severson Originally Posted by Dave Severson

Even though there were plenty of replaced and/or rebuilt parts, the engine and frame were original. His application was refused because he used "too many parts from the same vehicle"!!! I've decided to turn my T body over to my friend who has a body shop and let him prep and paint the body. He is coming over to the shop tomorrow night to look at my car and Dans to brainstorm colors and timeframe. I figure while he is working on it I can be doing everything to the chassis to get it running, then when it comes home I will simply mount it and head for the upholstery shop. As for color, I think I am back to black, but since a pro will be painting it I am thinking gloss base coat/ clear coat. Dan still insists the Fusion Orange would look good, but I am worried about having too much of that color on the car. We'll have to see what my buddy thinks.

In the meantime, I have started working on the brakes. I bought all new parts for the S10 rear end today.......shoes, drums, wheel cylinders, and kits. Tonight I did the install on the rear, so now that is done. As soon as the paint dries on the rear drums I can bolt the wheels back on and move to other stuff.

I also bought a selection of predone steel brake lines in 3/16, and will use these to mock up my lines. Then I can order exactly the correct lengths from Inline Tube in stainless without having to guess about what sizes I need. The steel lines are cheap, and using them should give me a better final fit in the real ones.

Here are some shots of the rear brakes and the lines I bought today.

That's pretty much my thoughts too Brad. Only thing I worry about is you don't think the scallops would be interpreted by people as being some "graphics" like the ricers run, do you? I mean, we hot rodders understand them, but maybe..........

Scallops have been around for ages and long before "ricers" ever came on the scene. Tech put them on his old Dodge around '59 or '60. At one time I thought he might get into the field as he was pretty good with a stripping brush.Ken Thomas

Don, this is your car....paint it the way you want it. Don't worry about how someone else is going to interpret the scallops....they probably will think it's a "kit" car anyway.

 Don,

I'd be nervous about the ricer look.....you're just a pair a wheels away from it!
