Any thoughts/input?

Hey guys heres what i wanted some thoughts on.

My 69 goat that i'm building is a full on drag car but i also plan on doing quite a bit of street driving with it, nothing long distance mind you but rather short hops to local cruise nights and up and down woodward ave during the summer. Now I had originaly planned on doing a full aluminum interior in it since its a tubbed tube frame car and has dual funny car cages in it because i figured it would be easier than trying to reshape carpet to the aluminum floor boards and trans tunnel and around the cage and such. Well now i have been looking at a few cars somewhat like what i'm building that have "full" interiors in them and i'm really liking the look of all the race equipment but still having the carpet and door panels.

Heres what i could use some ideas on. Since i was going full aluminum interior to begin with i built the cage where its about 1/2" from the roof, so now if i go with a somewhat full interior i have no way of putting a headliner in it, or at least i dont think i do....if not any ideas on what to do in place of a headliner that would look good?
Also since the doors are fiberglass and will have lexan windows held on with fasteners there will be no need/useable way to put window cranks on the panels, so i was thinking of rigging up some "mock" cranks that wouldnt be functional. Sound decent? or any better ideas as to what to do about the window cranks?

And then, instead of window handles, put in a set of those glitzy chrome GM power window switches...........................that'll make some eyes bug in wonder!

on a 63 nova a coustomer of mine has , it has a diamond pattern headliner above the cage , they put the headliner in with the windshield and rear glass out of the car . the headliner is almost floating between the roof and the cage .they sewed it up on the table and put it thru the glass area , i dont think i could be done without the glass out of the car .

I plan to use an original style headliner. The roll cage may push it up in spots but I think it should still work. I had the option of stock dash or non-stock (Aluminum) dash options when I bought the cage tubes. I opted for the non-dash cage for more forward cage room. But as I'm installing the tubes i've got the windshield tubes close enough to the glass that about a 1/2" notch in the original dash pad and it will fit over the cage. I'll have to notch the bottom of the dash to accommodate the diagonal braces.

So I plan stock headliner ?, stock dash with gage reconfiguration, Aluminum interior with just the floor pans carpeted from the seats to the firewall. (that real thin, lightweight carpet) And a layer of heat shield under the carpet (exhaust protection). Maybe heat baffles under the floor too. Maybe upholstered door panels, And maybe carpeted tubs if rock dimples become a problem.

now that would get some strange looks


Thanks for the ideas guys. Richard i really like your suggestion that might be a nice looking and easy way to add a headliner. Plus all the windows are out of the car right now so it would be simple to slide it in through the windshield as Kenny mentioned.
i think i may just go that route thanks.

Pro thats cool you could still use your stock dash with your cage. I went with a bead rolled aluminum one but since i think i am adding some actual interior parts to the car now i'm considering coating the top of the aluminum dash with some black hammerflake style paint and then leaving the face of the dash aluminum. I think that might look good but i'm gonna have to do some serious eyeballin before i do it so i dont end up having to strip the dash because i dont like the way it looks.

Pro i see ya got the front end on the Z in your avitar, looks great was it worth the wait?

Yea, I think it was. It needs some work, but @ least I have the R/S front end. Maybe there won't be too many copies out there.
