Hot Rod 59 Galaxie?
I recently bought one of these and had plans to lower it a little put some larger more modern wheels on it and some other things. I have never seen anyone do this to that type of car and I've searched the net with no results. Is there a good reason for this. I think it would look pretty cool. What do you guys think? Also if you have any suggestions I would be glad to hear them. Thanks.

If you like the car, build it. Never have built a '59, but I sure don't see any reason they wouldn't look kewl if they are built right. But hey, it takes more than wheels to make it a hot rod, you should also consider updating to disc brakes on the front and making sure all the suspension components are still in good enough codition to give you a good and safe ride. Just my 2 cents worth

You don't see much of them because the general concensus is they're not Ford's best design effort (trying to be gentle with you here), especially from the rear. But hey, if you like it, go for it.
Here's an example I found with just a short amount of time to look. Looks like 18's & 20's plus a wicked stance...................even makes a homely wagon look good!

59 Galaxie's used to be a favourite of many a kid in the late sixties and early seventies.
But it was usual to jack the back end up in the air,,put bigger rear tire's and wheels on,,and Chrome deep dish's.
The jacked up look with bigger wheels on the rear would give the car the look of a dragster about to launch,,and pop a wheelie.:3dSMILE:

I seem to remember that the 59 ford was a very tough, and durable car.
Probably why the state HWY patrol's and "G'Men" across The U.S. used them.
And they resisted the rust as well as any car i've seen.

Yeah,,Most cars of that time suffered from the same thing,,,Big Buick's,,Oldsmobiles,,,Pontiac's.
I had a 1958 Buick special which used to be quite interesting to drive after 30 minutes of hard intermittent braking,,,talk about runnaway frieght train.:whacked:

I appreciate all your help. I saw a disc brake conv. kit on ebay.
I had planned on replacing all the bushing and joints in the suspension. It rides kind of squirrely now.
