Took the Healey out for a cruise

Got the Healey out last Saturday for about a 50 mile drive on the Natchez Trace Parkway near my home. I had other things I should have been doing, but the car was calling me. Probably should have thrown a bucket of water on it, though. Weather was too nice to waste, so I just took off.

Temp was in the 70's which is unusually warm for November, even in the deep south. I had made a couple of adjustments to the suspension and needed to try them out. At least, that's what I told my wife! Seriously, she was feeling under the weather and I had a case of the lazies.

Here's a very short video, windshield bugs and all.

    And a couple of pics

BTW - I'm getting used to the car. It's broken in now, so I've been romping on it a little. Moocho fun!!! It'll scream easily to 6500 (rev limit), but also is perfectly happy to laze along at 1700 in 6th. Still tuning on things, but it's plenty fun just as it is.

Thanks for bringin' a smile to the face first thing in the morning. First you plan, then you do, then you enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Thanks for posting! We put up a combined cycle power plant just off the Trace at French Camp, MS years back. Made the run from Memphis to Starkville or Jackson to Starkville many, many times but only a small section of the Trace. I ought to make a road trip to do more of it!

It's a nice relaxing drive with mostly good scenery. I wish the speed limit was a little higher. You can get away with 55 (posted 50), but the park rangers will usually light you up for much over that. I live near the southern end (Natchez), which is particularly pretty. If we have a couple of hours to kill, that's usually where we ride the motorcycle. Best thing is that there are no 18 wheelers allowed to clog up the road.

Dig the Healey, It reminded me of a Triumph TR4 I had as a young fella.
The road trip video reminded me of a trip my wife and I took to Bristol to see the races.
A portion of the ride through the Mississippi countryside at daybreak on I55 was beautiful. Got on a wooded backstretch and had a Corvette wanting to race our Z28 Camaro. We cruised for miles at 100+. Something started gaining on us in the rearview mirror and I said Oh Chit must be a cop. It was some kind of Ford station wagon from a cable company with a ladder on top.
We were slowing down and he passed us at 100+ so we stood on it again and caught up with him and the Corvette.
It was hilarious that the cable guys were running at 100 +.

LOL for sure on the Park Rangers!! We learned quickly that they were serious about their speed limit!! I remember one night, after landing in Jackson we'd been to dinner and had loaded into a rental Caddy STS to make the trip to Starkville and the motel (they'd given me an STS because I needed "full size" for 5 guys). We were out on MS25 (Not the Trace), a nice 4 lane like an interstate, dark as pitch with zero natural light, settled in for a 112 mile trip. Cruising about 80-85MPH all of a sudden from the median ahead there was a quick burst of about 100 bright white LED's on super fast flash, sending the message "I see you, I could bust you, and you'd better back it down a notch..." I backed off, tapped the brake for a couple of quick flashes to say "I understand, and thank you..." and we continued on our journey. One of those events that's burned into my memory from my professional travels....

Yep. Know about 25. We have some friends that live in Starkville. Have been on it a few times. The Trace will get you mostly there, but I prefer the higher speed on 25. Hard to make time on the Trace.

After spending a couple hours outside this morning getting reacquainted with my snow blower (about 7" of that white stuff) it was really enjoyable to watch your video!
