Waiting on the front suspension pieces and rear end housing for my '57, it seems getting bulk materials from suppliers is a big problem. Anyone else having a similar problem? I have a friend with a repair shop, he says some parts that are normally on the shelf at parts stores are now taking days (or weeks) to get.
Yes, we've got so many things on back order with no new delivery dates scheduled.. it is getting ridiculous.
And everyone points the finger to some other part of a supply chain. Supposedly we have parts on the container ship that was trapped in the Suez canal. And now it is being held for ransom for the repairs to the canal! The crew is allowed off the ship once every few days and they cannot leave the country we are hearing.
I don't know if that is all true but it is having a world wide impact since it carries so many containers full of "stuff"!
at the big box hardware store i work at we`ve had trouble keeping things in stock all year ,, we have not had a chainsaw all this year .. we have not had a riding mower in over a month .. we`ve had to switch to several off brand items in tools and hardware just to have stuff to sell ..
just bought a kubota tractor after selling my big case . you take what is on the lot and you pay above the msrp . they have no idea when another load will arrive and getting things like a loader and such is worse . they had the tractor i wanted but without a loader . up to 3-4 months on a loader so i had to bump to the neck larger tractor . same frame just 10 more hp .thanks to the current admin paying folks not to work there is a shortage of everything . building a simple house ? add 35k to it and wait for materials. i have a friend with 4 sets pf prints but wont pour a slab until he has all dry in materials on hand . he has a 4k ft house to build and the estimate is an extra 100k to build . :eek:
Same here I'm currently not working on cars much but I do have a friend with a shop down the road. He told me last week that when a customer comes in to schedule normal service work (timing belts water pumps etc) that you normally just go get the parts for, they have check on parts availability before they put the car on the schedule.
I've been working on getting a standby whole house generator for the new house. Right now it looks like everybody is back ordered till the end of Oct/Nov.
I did some water line work a month or 2 ago, the stuff I usually just walked into the box stores to picked up ended up being sources thru the internet because the shelves were pretty bare in spots with no idea on when new stock would come in.

On the Kubota tractor thing, I just had to replace my ancient B6100 Kubota sub-compact. Can't complain as it was at least 30 years old. I wanted another Kubota, but no place I went had anything less than 40 HP, large frame tractors on the yard. Kubota doesn't even have an estimate on delivery of new stock.
I lucked out and found a BX1880 with less than 100 hours that had been traded in a few days earlier on a bigger tractor. Looks new and still had some warranty. I have a bigger tractor with a finish mower, but when it's really wet and the ground is soft, I need a smaller lightweight machine to mow with.
i have a pto generator . cheaper since not buying a powerplant . still see gen on ebay .
i ended up with a l3301 compact tractor . 32 hp and not so big it destroys the yard . my case jx70 was just too big now that we sold most of the land . i wanted a 2501 but the wait would 90 days or more . people are going back to work here since the governor ended that welfare crap .
L2501 with loader is my "big" tractor, that I bought about 2 years ago. The loader comes in very handy for moving my junk around. I had the dealer install a quick disconnect on the loader and I have a set of forks. Works good. It's still just a little too heavy when the ground is soft. The BX weighs about half what the 2501 does.
Another twist, if you get notice that your order "arrived US, but not yet received by USPS" it's still in a container, now traveling by rail to one of the Intermodal facilities. From there it gets offloaded, perhaps transported by truck to a distant warehouse, and finally unpacked and turned over to USPS. I had one that took over 2 weeks after the "arrived US" notice.
Yeah, I ordered a Lucas license plate light from a supplier in Britain and it has been sitting in a warehouse in Chicago for 10 days. Probably waiting on customs to clear it for delivery. Luckily, I don't need it in a hurry.
LOL I had a small soft package in the mail box yesterday, had no idea what it was and the return address was "JOHN DOE", with a street address in NY City?? Almost afraid to open it, but was too curious... It was a triangle hammock that I'd seen on a FB pop up, big enough for four or five young grandkids to lay on at the same time for $30 I think. Of course it was from China, and had been ordered two or three months ago with a "receive in two weeks" teaser.... I think I got a "Your order has shipped!" a month or more back, but the tracking just said In Transit. I was surprised that it actually got here! I need to send John Doe a Thank You card!
Been trying to order some custom backspaced wheels for my 40 from wheel vintiques for probably 5 months now, they say they have no material and can't tell me when they will get it.
Yup, getting materials to the manufacturer's seems to be the problem all over, talking with an engine builder yesterday he can't get the camshafts he uses for sprint car engines because there are no billet shafts available to cam grinders! He too said it's been an ongoing problem for over 6 months!Quote:

Hey! Good news! My Lucas light has finally been processed through Chicago after 17 days and is in possession of the Post Office. Considering how fast they are, I should receive it sometime next month.
I bought a couple small parts last week, they got into the postal system on Tuesday morning and I received them last night when I got home from work!
I think that's pretty fast!
i try to avoid the post office . every order i make i make sure to request ups and refuse to use fedex . fedex sucks , the lazy bastards drop packages at the road rain or shine which is almost 500 ft from my house . i can not even see the road . we've had countless items disappear . they even dropped some sams club boxes knowing there was food in them .
Around here both UPS and FedEx often rely on the post office for the back-end of their cheaper delivery options, Smartpost for FedEx and Surepost for UPS. The letter carrier takes it for the most expensive last leg of the delivery. Amazon also uses the USPS and has enlisted it for Sunday deliveries. You can say "UPS Only" but they may hand it off to USPS anyway unless you pay for expedited delivery which is at masked robber rates!
Last year, I had to send some parts to the chrome shop in Tennessee. I couldn't get to the UPS office, so I shipped them by USPS. This is literally a 7 hour drive from my house, but it was during all the covid lockdowns and didn't want to make that trip. These were grill parts that I had spent days working on.
They made it as far as Shreveport,LA and disappeared from tracking. I asked about them with the local postmaster several times and he said he would ask for an investigation. 28 days later they suddenly appeared again and were delivered 2 days later. I had insurance, but they were custom parts and hard to replace. I was sweating having to redo them. I have sworn off USPS for packages.
The post office here serves some 10 zip codes and many times I've had packages that I believe have been through everyone of them before finally being delivered to me. Needless to say, many times these packages appear as though they have traveled through a war zone. Fortunately most of the packages have been properly packed and not damaged to the point any of the contents had to be returned.
At least with FedUp they arrive on time, but in many cases the packages are just as damaged though I never had to send anything back.
My company hates to deal with Fedex. They have been seen on camera stopping at the gate and throwing packages over, instead of picking up the phone and calling for someone to let them in. The phone is by the gate and there is a sign. They don't know if it's a $10 part or a $10,000 part. Just don't carre.
fedex hires subs to deliver . especially fedex home . our regular gal is golden but the subs are bottom feeding crackheads . i've had a package delivered 10 miles away on a totally different hwy . and there is no recourse , no place to complain , 0 customer service .
I received my front suspension pieces last Friday so finally getting back at the frame and suspension on the '57! Unfortunately, my square hole saws and shop stretcher are still on back order, been years for them!
Huge problem at my job. I ordered four 600A distribution panels from an electrical manufacturer in April. They are still saying they don't have a projected delivery date.
My standby generator got moved back 2 more months till December. At least I got the propane tank in and filled.

you can ship through the bus companies . jay shipped the tires and wheels for the 56 on the bus . went smooth .
