I'm guessing most of you don't directly have to deal with this situation. But, maybe your grandchildren do. It just blows my mind how the states are demanding children go back to school at normal times but the CV numbers continue to climb. Also, they can't decide if they will go 2 days a week, 3 days a week, first part of the week or 2nd? Half the class one day, the next the other. Masks on and no recesses. I feel sorry for the teachers as they will be some tough kids to keep focused. I also feel bad for the teachers, faculty, and subs because they are just that much more exposed. We'll see what actually happens. They have a month to change their minds 15 times a day.

The virus is not a joke, I've lost several long term friends to it....Smart, cautious, sound minded friends with loving families that still got caught up by those not playing it carefully enough that they came in to contact with. They are no longer with us.

I didn't start the thread to start a debate. I don't doubt the disease is deadly. Especially to elderly folks or anyone with breathing/heart issues. Now they're saying it is extremely dangerous for infants and small children. We have 2 of them and we don't need them getting exposed and I guarantee the public schools will have it in there the first week one way or another I'm afraid. The whole thing is just crazy. In this day and age, there shouldn't even be a question as to if they kids are going to school physically. They should have been working on online ways to learn that are better than 1 zoom meeting a week. I don't think it is too hard for them to implement these things in a 2 to 3 month break. Especially since things didn't seem to calm down with the heat like they claimed.

They also said if you had it, then you can't get it again but several people have had it 2 times or more now. The mask thing does drive me nuts. Please explain how all the middle eastern women are getting it and dying off? They were covers over their face all the time. It is definitely crazy times we are living in currently.

I had a case of the Hong Kong flu that put me down for a week and there was no panic, no mask wearing and politicians blaming each other.

Only the women cover their faces, the men spread it. My mask protects you, your mask protects me, it's all we got for now. If wearing a mask saves just one life it's worth it. It's so easy....

Our kids won't be going this year. Allyson is going to home school them. We already purchased a curriculum with books etc. We feel their learning will be far better here this way this year. This way she can take them on field trips as well. Plenty of opportunities to learn in nature away from civilization.

We have two granddaughters that live with us, they will be home schooled for at least the first semester. I've had one of my relation die from the virus, another is in quarantine now. As for me, I barely lived through pneumonia a few years back, quite sure this virus would be fatal for me. I stay home as much as possible and wear a mask when I'm out. I'm not afraid of the virus, just in no big hurry to die! There should be nothing political about wearing a mask to protect others and yourself.

Dave, I've not had the issues with pneumonia and am in relatively good health, but I share your feelings and take the same approach. In my opinion it's shameful that something as simple as wearing a mask to protect others (which has been proven to be an effective deterrent when coupled with sanitizing hands and distancing when possible) has been allowed to become a political concern.

A young critical care nurse (family friend) posted a paper by Dr Anthony Fauci discussing some historical viruses, and then how Covid19 is different. It's a bit long, but informative and interesting. To compare Covid19 to the Spanish Flu or Hong Kong Flu just makes no sense. They refer to it as "novel" for good reason - it's new, original, and unique, never seen before.

I noted the other day that it's those aged between 20 and 29 are the ones more likely to get it. They're the ones who still think they're ten ft tall and bullet-proof. The ones who ignore the attempts of authority to contain it.
But they're young enough and resilient enough to be able to be cured of it.
It's the older ones, the ones over the age of 60, who (the statistics tell us,) are the most likely to die from it.
We, in New Zealand, being a small island nation, were in a unique (and fortunate,) position of being able to shut our borders to the rest of the world and concentrate on getting shot of it.
Anybody who enters our country now must observe a fortnight's strict quarantine.
Anybody who breaks quarantine faces fines into four figures and compulsory jail time...no excuses.

I don't particularly like the politics of Jacinda Ardern, our current Prime Minister; but I do admire her reaction to this killer virus. We were fortunate to have her as our Head of State.

our school is going to open up . dont have a problem with it . kids need the interaction with their peers and their online plan is not possible .
our county has 329 cases , 14 hospitalizations and only 1 death since 1st of march . only mask you see is in walmart or heb . i dont understand the surprise in the jump in cases . 1000's of morons in the streets not to mention the false positives turning up .
