Latest At Home Project
Like a lot of the folks here on HRC I’m also an avid 2nd Amendment supporter and I have more than a couple guns. I store most of my ammunition in surplus .50 caliber ammo cans as they are readily available and if I’m choosey I can get nice cans that are water tight. I fill with ammo and toss in some silica gel desiccant packets and it makes for great storage that’s easy to transport to the range. And yes – what you see is about 20,000 rounds – various calibers. I’m not a gun nut, but I am very well prepared and often go through 1,000 rounds a month at the range. Gun control is hitting what I aim for. (Target below is .45 @21’ with one magazine change – total of 16 rounds.)
The problem has been, “How to stack/store these cans?”
In that I have a lot of “free time” just now I came up with a storage rack (adapted from plans on the web – see: https://www.almostfamousdave.com/201...-storage-rack/) and thought, “What the hey – I’ll give it a go. I modified his plan to a seven shelf unit but use all his base dimensions using 1” square tube and ¾” angle with a 2” backstop/shelf strengthener.
It works well, but since my rack was to be exposed in the garage, I wanted to make it a bit less obvious and so I cobbled up a “shipping crate” to hide the rack in plain sight.
I had my local favorite (Newberg Steel) cut all the stock to size and the bill was $260. I spent next to nothing on the crate as I typically have some plywood and 1 by scraps around the shed. It took me about a day to assemble the steel and another couple hours to build the crate. I found some vintage air freight pictures on the web and glued them on to help authenticate the crate in a nostalgic kind of way."Where the people fear the government you have tyranny. Where the government fears the people you have liberty." John Basil Barnhil

I check in everyday and some are better than others. I don't think Brent has anything to do with the forum anymore, but I'm not sure. Hopefully as time moves on the forum will get better.
Where is everybody?
