    Crop duster season!

I never get sick of these crazy buggers dodging trees and power lines. Spraying crops with airplanes looks nuts but it's fun to watch!! Here's a link to
    it flying over our house!

Haven't seen him this year, but in past years I've had one doing his aerobatics around the house, spraying the big fields to the south of my place. As you say, it's fun to watch him pull up and turn on a wingtip, then plunge down for another pass.

Your link didn't work for me, BTW, but you triggered memories of the bright yellow low wing spray rig here.

There was one that crashed about a mile from me a few years ago, he walked away from it which is amazing. We have a yellow one around here too, I wonder why the link didn't work, it works when I click on it.

We have 2 that are in our area. One is a bi-plane and I absolutely love the sound of that plane! I wonder if these are supposed to be yellow by the FAA or something? There was a white one around when I was younger but I haven't seen it since. That guy was a dare devil!

I saw the bi-plane last week when I was on my way to pick up a 4L80E.

I'd be willing to bet the bi-plane is a radial engine - the Harley's of the air! They have that low rpm, high torque pop that just sounds right! Spent some years working on R1820's, making them right.

I figured it was. I love that near war bird sound. Speaking of that. I have to get my kids up to the EAA some time. There are less and less air shows these days. Is that a sign of the times maybe?

Yep. Applications are way down from years past for private pilot licenses, reflects general interest likely. Similar to golf, our older hot rods, and probably a number of other things that people used to find interesting enough to participate in, but the younger generation has little to no interest in generally.

I know two of the crop duster dudes around here, both are ex fighter jocks who are damn good at what they do, have a blast doing it, and even manage to make a buck or three! Going for a ride with either of them is not for the faint of heart, but I'm sure you'd never fly that way would you Jerry?

Well Dave---------once upon a time, long ago--------John Keeling went for a ride with me on a cloudy Sunday---------we lived ( before California) at a place near Ohare that was about centered from US30, Union Grove and Byron Dragway-we went and flew around all 3 places kinda low? to see what was going on-------but on the way back I flew thru a cloud, rolled plane upside down and came out other side with John looking at the countryside with his feet way above his head---------he was sorta surprised, pissed, impressed, excited-----------
