Unique old AC 45 and another old JD A

I know some of you really enjoy old tractors so I thought I would share it with you. My aunt is getting the big d and it isn't in Dallas () and is selling off everything they had. My cousin told me he was cleaning the yard up and I knew they had a really good running John Deere A. When I called my aunt to talk to her about it, she said they also had a weird Allis Chalmers fork lift thing. That peaked my interest.

I went over there today and sure enough. They have what I think is an Allis Chalmers WD rear loader tractor. I personally never have seen one. At first I figured it was just a farmer converted deal. But the more I looked at it, the more manufactured pieces I saw. Supposedly the guy they got it from said there were only 4 or 5 in Iowa and they all came from 1 dealer. My Dad is buying it to use on his place while his skid loader is broken. I'll buy it later to repaint with one of the kids for a 4H project. It fires right up, doesn't smoke and will lift a large round bale but some additional weight needs added to the rear to keep it down.

Here is the A. My uncle/cousins used this tractor for mainly running the candy wagon. It has been kept in a machine shed for as long as I can remember. We dumped some gas in it and stuck a battery in it and it fired on the 2nd revolution.

You know I'm a sucker for old tractors, hate to break it to you on the WC Allis, if if there's only 4 reversed Allis's in the state of Iowa three of them are in Lyon county LOL. My brother has one too, they were really handy in the days before skid loaders. Like you said, rear weight was a common problem with them but still a very handy thing. I don't know if it was so much of a kit vs just flipping the ring gear and tires around then adding a loader how you seen fit. Come to think about it, my dad in law had one too. There was a very popular Allis Chalmers dealer here back in the day.

Is it a WC? I haven't checked the numbers yet to verify WD. This one has cast iron throttle, all the clutch linkage and brake mounting points are cast iron so I assumed it to be more of a production deal than a made at a farm situation. But the parts could have been purchased anywhere and put on it too over the years I'm sure. I did read it is pretty easy to switch the ring gear position to make it into a normal tractor. I doubt we do that. It's not something you see around here much anymore and has to be more stable than a narrow front loader tractor. I knew a guy that an Oliver one but it had an actual fork lift mast on it.

As popular as it was to reverse those tractors, it would not surprise me if a loader company such as westendorf or somebody like that made loaders especially to fit them. I'll buy you your favorite frothy beverage next time I see you. I know the WC's had hand brakes and hand clutch. WD's had no hand brakes but with this one being altered that brake thing goes out of the window. I have noticed all WC's have non adjustable wheels on the rear. The WD's have adjustable wheels. But I'm not sure if they will bolt on to a WC. When it gets home I will check deeper now I know where to check for numbers.

Ok, I did't read you post good enough the first time, I thought you said it was a WC. I called my brother and the order of the Allis's from older to newer of those years goes from WC to WD to WD-45. You have WD or WD-45 because it has the stamped steel power torque rear wheels. You adjust them by loosening the clamps on the rim and hold the opposite brake and let out the clutch and it's supposed to spin the rim on the rails to where you want it. You were right on the money about the differences. The difference between the WD and WD-45 were engine changes, they increased the CID and compression on the 45. Most of the loaders were modified regular loaders to fit the Allis. His WD-45 has an actual Allis Chalmers loader but lots of them were Kooiker or Duall. He told me and other info while he was combining oats We still have a D-17 and that also has the hand clutch with the foot clutch. If you need live hydraulics or live pto you have to use the hand clutch.

Thanks and tell him thank you for the info. I may have to pick his brain some time. This is the first AC we have had. Our neighbor has had a WD45 regular loader tractor for years but he is currently recovering from a very bad stroke.
