    Photobucket pictures back

I don't know how many here besides me that use(d) Photobucket to host pictures on the site, but it appears there have been some new changes. Photo bucket has a new CEO. Apparently the $400 a year they wanted to charge to host pictures to third party sites drove everybody away…..now there's a surprise

They’re aparently still going to charge; $1.99 per month for 10 gigabytes of images stored and rise to $3.99 monthly for 20 gigabytes and $8.99 for two terabytes of storage. All the plans enable third-party hosting for a $2.49 monthly add-on price.

They have also allowed pictures that there previously displayed on 3rd party sites like this one to be viewed again.

Personally I’m not going back to using them.... I'm happier with Flicker than I ever was with Photobucker plus it's free as opposed to the $50+ bucks a year. Funny thing is, if they had started out trying to charge what they are now instead of the $400 I would have grumbled but would probably have paid it. At least pictures I had posted on my threads are back.

keep in mind, memory sticks have a finite lifespan, and when the data on the flash memory gets corrupted, it's gone..

I actually have an LTO-3 tape archival drive hooked up to my computer, so that everything is backed up forever basically.. Flash media is not considered archival grade. Best would be a 2.5" external drive

Looks like the return of old pictures is not across the board. I went back to my original build thread, and the PhotoBucket links are still blocked, but they're pretty old, too.

I use the photo hosting services because for me it just makes it easier for a couple of the sites I post on.

All my pictures are stored on the computer and backed up regularly to a flash drive. The pictures I really like are printed and kept in an album.

My daughter used to make fun of me for that, she kept all her pictures stored on the big fancy phone she has……….that was until her phone died and she lost the pictures.

I’ve inherited a fair amount of old photos and a couple of family photo albums over the last few years, and really love a few of the pictures. It’s the reason I still print out some of the pictures. With care, a physical picture can be passed down a few generations. While the same can be done with a CD (remember when we used to save pictures to them?) or flash drive, in 50+ years how easy will it be to find some machine that can read the electronic data stored on today’s storage devices.

Like that stack of 3.5" discs Mike? Or even better, how about the drawer full of 5.25" floppies? One of my kids asked not long ago if I still had a VCR laying around, as they had a VHS tape that they were thinking of trying to save to their computer, hoping that it hadn't "cross talked" too much layer to layer.
