That's better than the last time i was running a power hand drill with a big bit, and the bit locked up. Of course, i had accidentally locked in the trigger. The drill was a HILTI , a real beast.
I managed to let go quick enough that it didn't break my wrist, then stood back and watched it coil up the cord until it un plugged.
Anyway, let's see the video!

Firebird that sounds like why I bought a Sunnen CK10 honing machine-------------my heavy duty drill I used on my hand hone caught on main web and ran until it wound up the cord til it pulled the plug outta the wall socket------30 ft cord with wall socket only 8-10 ft away------------breathless--------
It looks like it's turning into a nice addition.
The fish-eye lens effect fooled me at first glance. I sure thought the beam was bowed.
I'm waiting on the video of the pressure washer incident, too! I had a similar type of thing with a gas post hole drill many years ago. Hit a root with my thumb locked over the throttle. The guy that was helping me and I made several trips in a circle before I could let go.

Sounds like I won't be going to work tomorrow because of the 8-12 inches of snow with 35 mph winds their predicting and I'd like to put the steel on. I might be power washing in a blizzard, but the temp isn't supposed to be too cold so I can handle a bit of snow. So far I've avoided getting the flu, don't know how yet, everyone around me is sick.:HMMM:
Be careful with this years flu guys. I know of one person around here (a 7 year old child) that died from it. Rumors say 2 or 3 more have died in the local hospitals. The child was infected with 2 different strains according to the autopsy reports. I didn't even know that was possible. My in-laws have had it and my wife and I had to ferry them to the doctor's office a couple of times. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we don't get it.
That's so sad when I hear of little children dying from it.

Man, that's so sad to hear a 7yr old passed on due to the flu. My daughter just turned 7 yesterday and I couldn't imagine loosing her. Especially to flu. I have heard that influenza A is nasty and spreading like wild fire. The flu shots do not protect against it either.

Their doom's day prediction went a little south of us by Yankton SD. They got 14 inches with 30-40 mph wind. We only got 4-5. I still got a day off work though :toocool: My boss called me a 6:30 wondering what I was thinking, I told him I was staring out my window wondering if it's worth it to come in. I think he wanted a day off to cause he said if I got stuff to do at home ,I didn't need to come in. Of course It's not too hard for me to find work at home :LOL:Quote:

I suspect you already thought of this, but if it ever becomes an issue, a couple of 4X4s cut to the right length and temporarily placed under beam can be used for peace of mind if you ever have to lift anything real heavy.
I seriously contemplated doing that on mine when I lifted the Hemi with the 46RH attached into the 37 Dodge. Fortunately my beam did fine, but I have a lot shorter span and was working towards one end of the beam.

I think the 348 is about as heavy as it will get for me, I'm not much of a big block guy. Your right though, it wouldn't take much to tap in a temporary support if needed.Quote:

Well, we got it all insulated now, walls and ceiling. I blew in the rafters with loose insulation, that's always a fun job. It's weird but I swear the shed heats easier now with the wall removed. I know it doesn't make sense but the only explanation is that I replaced a insulated 2x4 wall with a 2x6 wall.

Maybe with the wall removed the airflow is actually more capable of covering the whole shop? I added a deflector to knock the heat down to where I needed it. It actually makes the time even longer to get the building warm! I can only conclude that I destroyed the airflow pattern and it's just in-efficient.
That is odd but good. Looking good! I wonder if the heat just leached in to the cold storage area and was lost causing the heater to run more before? I've thought that happens in my shop since the roof isn't insulated at all.
We got the top closed up again yesterday and all the trim work on so hopefully be painting later this week. I had to do the ceiling a little different above the over head door because of the clearance. I got 3 1/2 inches of hard board insulation up there instead of the blow in. My youngest boy 15 measured and cut the trim for the windows, he did a fantastic job. I thought the shed would be a good place to practice but I think I'd trust him for the house. Remember the I beam is straight, my phone isn't. :LOL:

I just completed a remodel job for a friend, just two rooms. I now understand why some people won't do remodeling. It's easier to build it than to rework it.
You've got me headed towards insulating my barn so I can get some heat (AC?) in there and be able to use it better year round, Seth! Great job!
Hey, that trim work looks pretty darn good. I've seen some so-called pros that can't fit that tight and wind up with gobs of filler. Good on him!

A friend of mine bought an old rock building in a little town south of here to store his rust buckets, one of those that had seen many different businesses through the years and was pretty much gutted other than plumbing to the rest room and old electrical throughout. An HVAC buddy knew a guy that knew a guy who stockpiled takeout furnace units from residential homes, swapped pieces & parts to make one good unit out of two or three, and sold them really cheap. Friend bought a big one, set it at one end of the big open shop area, slapped a big sheet metal elbow on top and ran a line to it with a thermostat off to the side. No ducting other than a big elbow on top pointed to the far end of the building, about 7' off the floor. Don't know why a guy couldn't do that with an AC unit, too. Got everything primed that needed it with Kiltz primer. I primed the I beam but I think it's going to have to be changed to a normal I beam color just because it looks weird white.I'm going to use 6 led four foot lights for lighting and hopefully my brother is going to wire it up next week.
That is looking really nice. I kind of like the white I beam. It blends right in.
I agree, you don't even think about the beam being there. Change the color and then your eyes will be drawn right to it. And that could be okay too! All depends what you like. Remember the golden rule? The guy with the gold makes the rule! 8-)
