Goodguys changes their year cut off. What are your thoughts on it?

I heard ramblings this year at Des Moines Goodguys, and even saw a lot of stuff past '73 that were in the show that shouldn't have been. (Because it wasn't Sunday) The ramblings were that Goodguys staff was going to raise the year cut off range to 1987. It seems they have done it.

Me personally, I see good in it but can also see a can of worms getting opened. Either these shows that were at 4-5k car/truck attendance will spike to 8k or more. Or a lot of the guys that wanted to keep it pre 72 will stop coming.

I know a lot of people with some pretty bad ass 80s rides and this will make their day.

Honestly, time keeps ticking. If you want the younger generation involved in this hobby, you have to let them bring their cars too. The last show we brought Rita to, there was a 04 ish Monte Carlo SS parked next to us. Nice kid and excited as heck to be there.

Ok, they did this with the nsra show in Springfield several years ago, pre 49 vehicles only and they had 2300-2500 vehicles, they went to the sliding 30 year cutoff and now and have 21-2200 vehicles because they made a bunch of older guys mad who would not go back. Well we are once again victims of the golden rule, or who has the most gold rules and in this case it's the vendors, they are selling more and more later model parts and will cease advertising or support unless things changed, and they win, this was told to me by a speedway rep before this all happened, he was dead on. Might as well accept it, the only thing certain is change (& taxes and death) it doesn't matter what you or I think sometimes it's that all mighty dollar...... sorry to rain on anybody's parade! I just hope that later models continue to show skill and uniqueness in their builds, as earlier cars do, so I don't have to look at a ton of newer stuff I have already seen that I can remember 30 years ago!

Well, for sure there are 80's cars that are worth showing and even mundane cars could still be worth showing if they were a clean example.. Something like a Yugo even.

We all saw this happen with the NSRA. Complaints and threats to stop coming to their shows were common. But in reality it kept them alive. Car shows with a pre 48 cut off were dying. Most young guys can't afford a street rod, that's if you can even find a buildable one! Yeah, I know that no one wants to see a stock 1980 Pinto or gremlin or whatever, but it does open up some great looking rides like 55-57 chevys, Z28's and many others that didn't have the opportunity to come to these shows. The only drawback that I see are the ones who purchase a brand new car or truck off the lot and bring them to a show!...Not my cup of tea!...CR

Nothing like going to a car show to look at a late model Mustang/Camaro/Corvette with a K&N air filter as their only performance modification!!! Dead stock 50+ year old cars are cool; dead stock new cars are not cool.

I'm ok with Gremlins and Pacers but I draw the line at donks and low riders with 13" wheels and vans or anything else with 50,000 watt stereo systems.

I have no problem with any year car!! If that what the person likes and is part of the car culture it's all good!! Why do humans always have to judge and isolate other humans? Someone once said, The more people I meet the more I like my dog!!( maybe he was right) Pete

Once I finally got the 40, I wanted to put it back to somewhat era correct and have it be "Traditional". Yeah, right. My car was already so modified, I would have to buy another roller to get all the stuff I'd need. And none of that stuff is cheap to rebuild/obtain. Especially when you start building a flat head. I just decided to build the car how I wanted it just like my Uncle and his buddies did back then. But I'm not hacking it to get it done. :LOL:

You can still find good deals on old iron, but it is getting tougher each day. I do agree, it drives me nuts to walk down rows of new cars at a show. But, some people literally can't build their own ride. Banks usually won't loan money on a $40k on up 70 year old street rod. They sure will on a 5-7 year new era car though. I'm sure that's why there are so many there IMO.

I'm OK with it. It was a mere 20 years ago that they opened it up to '72 and older vehicles from I think '62 and older. Another 20 years and they'll be opening it up to the mid '90s vehicles. Sign of the times.

Just means I'll have to show up earlier on Saturday morning to find a good parking spot inside the show with my classic ride!

I don't care what years show up at the car shows and long as they have clean wheels & tires...if you're bringing it to a car show, clean it up a bit!!! How's that for a pet peeve? :LOL::LOL::LOL:

So you don't like those polished BMW and Mercedes next to you at a traffic light with all that brake dust/grime on their wheels???????
