Today my youngest son had a rough day

This morning my son and I were working in the garage and I asked him where my tape measure was that he had the other day. He responded saying it was in his fire truck pedal car. I asked him to go please get it. All my other ones are not in the garage. (Imagine that) A while goes by and he finally comes back saying he can't find his fire truck. He's 4 so I assumed he left it on the other end of the yard or something. I asked where he had it last and he walked out to where they park their pedal cars and bikes. He pointed to the ground and told me he parked it white dere Dad. I know I did so no wun would wun it over. I have a gravel area for them in between the drive way and fence by the side walk to park them out of the way. Sure enough, it wasn't there. We walked the yard, checked the shed just in case, checked behind the garage and it wasn't around. We then walked around our block looking in yards to see if it got a ride home from another kiddo. Nope, nothing. I told him well buddy, it's probably gone. He couldn't believe it. We put all the other kids' toys inside the fence by the garage. When I took him to preschool we drove around our side of town trying to spy it, but we didn't find it. What kind of human steals a 4 year old's hot rod? He's pissed, I'm pissed, and he'll have to wait. Daddy needs truck parts. Poor kid. Maybe I'll upgrade him to a pedal tractor. I'm guessing someone eyed them while driving by and decided they'd get them one at a time. I guess it's time to start locking everything for now. We usually don't worry about that around here but having to replace a $290 toy will make you rethink things a bit.

That SUCKS. I had a friend who had his daughters bike stolen from the back of his pickup truck parked in front of a store once....I spent some time driving around with him looking for it but no luck.

When the grandkids started having bikes, scooters and the Tot Rod over here I didn't like having the bikes parked out in the car port where they could be seen from the road (we never locked the gate and both Donna and I worked at the time). We cleaned out one of the storage sheds (the cheap metal kind that were so popular several years ago). It became the kids "garage" and is still used for that.

Sorry to hear the kids world just changed for the worst.
Shame they have to know the bad side of life so young. But it's the time we live in.

    It does suck.
But unfortunately that's the way the world is. And always has been. (In our corner of the world anyway.)
I can remember having my tricycle stolen when I was still at kindergarten when I was less than five years old.
And that's a few haircuts ago!
Even for me; who gets a haircut once a year.
For sure it was a hand-me-down from my two older brothers, all the mudguards were gone and the tyres were pretty well worn out; but it was mine and I was terribly proud of it.
It made such an emotional impact on me I can remember it to this day.

    I was absolutely gutted.

My heart goes out to your wee boy Ryan.

I used to borrow bicycles, they always got them back by morning, always in a different spot so they would know to take better care of their stuff.

Never stole anything though. Tough lesson for such a young guy!

That really stinks, you seem to get a lot of stuff ripped of by you,I think if I ever moved to your area I'd have nothing left. Around me for the most part people can leave stuff on the yard and the house unlocked. I wonder if people are proud of the things they steal, or why they think they deserve it more than you.

Not the best lesson for a child, but sadly a real one. Hope he doesn't get too cynical from it. Learning about the need for some level of security at a young age will be useful.

Did you try knocking on some of your neighbours doors?
Maybe some of the local kids 'borrowed' it

    Worth a try

My son, who lives in central Ohio, has had several bikes stolen from his garage. Recently he wised up and put a GPS locator under the seat. Yup, the bike got stolen, but was recovered the next day. The thief turned out to be a drug dealer in the area that the cops were looking for. Two birds with one stone, as they say.

Seth, I think this is the first thing of ours that has been ripped off. (That I remember right now) Colt is actually dealing with it pretty well. He asked me this morning if I think Joe the police man will find it and I told him to not get his hopes up, but we'd keep looking for it.

I did. We don't have many neighbors with small kids around on our block or even 2. I have reached out to them any way just to see like you mentioned. Also, just as a warning to make sure they don't leave anything out they don't want to replace too.
