Oh bummer - always appreciate your contribution Denny! Please tell me it wasn't something I said - I know I can be a bit too "direct and to the point" at times and please accept my apologies if I have offended you - hope you'll reconsider.

No sir Glenn, it wasn't anything you have said...
As mentioned, about thin skin though, I really do not have thin skin... 2 tours in vietnam eliminated anything close to thin skin...

Since you are the only one who has asked, I'll reply to you.
There are many forms of skin thickness. I try to talk and present myself to match that to the other person. If they are kind, understanding, and not a smart a$$, I stay within those guide lines. My goal has always been to try and help when asked... Sure, there are different answers to many things. I try only to answer on things I know, or have tried to get the job done the best way. It takes time to learn good ways to do anything, as you, I'm sure know that.
Probably the main thing is, now a days, recently,
    1. People signup, ask a question, and never return.
    2. People who do not even know what a part is supposed to do, are wanting to build something out of the blue.
    3. No one wants to take time to learn, they just want it to sound choppy, and hot.
    4. Two pages of explanations to a novice, is in no way going to teach them anything at all. You have to start at the beginning to teach them, not give them a lecture, or all kinds of info they do not have any ideal of what was just said. Even though the person telling them is trying to tell them something.
    5. Using big words instead of common words to explain, or answer, and not really give an answer.
And, a few more things, but that is the jest of things.

Ps. With over 35 years wrenching, I have learned many things, and on foreign and domestic autos. I have no reason to blow smoke in any direction. My main goal has always been to try to help teach someone, if they want to learn.
And, that's why I mentioned facebook, or messenger, because I can talk direct and see things when communicating with people that want to learn on the spot. I've been doing that already, even with a couple members here.

Denny, I'm Robert Dobbs father of Robert Dobbs who for one appreciate you and
two other posters to this post who have helped me and especially my son build
his 383 Camaro drag car. Without guys like yourself, we would not have the engine
he now has. He is one that loves to learn things and takes it very serious.
I do see how frustrating it can be for you as well as some others who try to help
those who think they know a lot, when in actuality they barely know what a spark
plug is. You guys post several pages of good info, then the guy does not appreciate
it and never returns. I guess he thinks he is a know it all, or he realizes that he
is in over his head and does not want to admit it.
As for me I appreciate all you guys, and the help you have given me and my son
    for sometime now.
I see you have been a member for a long time, and without guys like you who are
really dedicated lot of us would not have the knowledge we have learned over the
months and years. Sure hope you reconsider. RD

We'll we're all at different places in terms of our life experiences. First and foremost - THANK YOU for your service Denny - you are an American Hero in my book. Spent a bit of time driving C-141's back and forth and I still get a lump in my throat when I think of all the aluminum boxes we brought back from Southeast Asia to sobbing mothers, dads and widows. You'll never have to convince me that you have thick skin as one tour, yet alone 2 made a man of everyone I know who served.

Again - hope you hang out and maybe just read for a bit and then join back in as appropriate. We're at that age my friend - believe me - I think most of us 65+ folks here have felt the same way you do from time to time.

    My sincere regards and respect,

Robert Dobbs father of Robert Dobbs, Thank you for your reply. Your son and I have something setup for a near visit on Saturday on facebook. I look forward to helping him when he asks.
Glenn, What you said, is my plan-- hope you hang out and maybe just read for a bit and then join back in as appropriate.
Thanks a lot for Both your replies. Means a lot to me.

Denny, I also get to the point of being fed-up from time to time and have given up on most of the forums I used to frequent and offer advice on, with the exception of ClubHotRod. I've been here for over 14 years and the management leaves me alone to say pretty much what I want. I reciprocate by trying to be constructive and by staying away from politics and religion.

You know, the author of a post response has to be happy with what he or she writes, whether or not it bangs a home run for the original poster who is asking for help. Some people can be taught, while others cannot. Robert Dobbs and other young men like him are why you and I are here. They are the exception to the rule of unteachable young people today (millennials) and make me happy that I am able to pass on information that allows them to construct a hot rod of their own.

Sometimes it's management that throws a monkey wrench into the works. I spent more than 11 years of my life posting and writing over 300 technical articles and more than 16,000 posts on Hotrodders.com and just recently decided to bail out after getting just too much harassment from management. I am not a machine and if what I write does not please me, then there is no reason to write it in the first place. I'm sure as hell not getting paid to do this, it comes from my heart and wanting to do something for the hobby.

Denny, you have to do what makes you happy, the same as I do. Good luck.

I know just enough about engines and hot rodding to luck out with some of the stuff I've put together and wasted a lot of time and money on other experiments. I didn't always have the knowledge that I don't know what I was doing until I've read You and other knowledgeable peoples posts on here. That was really a wake up call for me because I was the guy all my friends went to for engine advice for a lot of years . I can't catch up on the knowledge you people have gained over the years because I haven't been at the racetrack or behind the wheel and building engines all my life. For me I know I can't to be an expert on cars anymore cause I got too old to learn well, but I can handle my own with the help of people like you. My latest teaching moment was you can't just pick a camshaft from the Summit Racing catalog description and expect it to work well, I need help with that. Do what you want to do and hopefully others will cover for you.

Denny I have nothing to contribute; save this:

    Please stay.

The sum of the parts blah blah blah.

    Please stay.

Tech, elaborate if you can, If not, I understand, but what I don't understand why management would harass a usual poster that helps people out?

It was a matter of personalities not matching up. When I first joined Hotrodders, a fellow named Jon owned the site and operated it. He was very receptive to any and all contributions to the site and used to issue "Barn Star" awards to contributors. It was a fun environment and everybody got along. I thrived in it and like I said above, I wrote many articles and posts.

Somewhere along the way, Jon sold the site to a group of Canadians and that's when the infighting began. One of the moderators took a vehement dislike toward me and made life difficult for me and others from the beginning. Most of the knowledgeable fellows with whom I started at the site have been run off or banned or simply don't post any more, so it was time for me to move on.

I'm probably not the easiest fellow to get along with on forums such as this, because i don't tolerate stupidity or slothfulness, but if a fellow comes along who will answer the questions put to him and show a genuine interest in learning how to do a certain thing, I will hang in there with him forever and explain it over and over in different ways until he gets it.

There will come a time when I can no longer help anyone with anything, but until then, I'll be trying to teach and doing the best I can to support the sport/hobby.
