Amelia Earhart Special on the History Channel last night

Obviously I was not around during the time of her disappearance. I always thought the entire thing was just weird that she just "Vanished". I'd never heard any of the folk tales that were shared in the special last night. All the evidence and info they have found and shared seems pretty legit. That is a pretty sad deal that no one from our Government ever went after her and got her out of the Saipan prison.

The Japanese were cutthroat and ruthless but they were not stupid. If they had captured Amelia Earhart they would have known her propaganda value and I seriously doubt that any harm would have come to her. Greg "Pappy" Boyington spent the last year and a half of the war in a Japanese POW camp.

The Japanese didn't kill her. See below. I copied it off this site. I never knew it existed and all of this info was already out there for a few years.

8. She died of dysentery. She was held as a "playing card" for the Japanese to use against the US - but never got around to it. The US invaded June 1944.

However, the Japanese did kill Fred for being a spy for the US, as the Japanese thought. There are people that think there were US military cameras on AE's plane put on there to get in tell on the Japanese since this was before WW2.

Good read though I'm still skeptical and btw I lost an uncle on Saipan in June of 44.

The Japanese were a ruthless people, after watching Unbroken and Hacksaw Ridge, I think I'd rather have been captured by Germans.

That's no joke. But the Germans weren't much better I don't believe. With what I've read and some of the things I've seen about the meth they were given etc...............

From what I understand, didn't the German pilots use Meth to stay awake? Also all the experimental surgeries that were performed on Jews, I can't bring my mind to that place, to treat another human that way.

My late mother married a Japanese American, born in San Francisco, in 1951 so I grew up around Japanese and know a bit of their culture. isis has nothing on the Japanese . they were far more ruthless and barbaric . my father went to his grave hating them . i think Amelia flew straight into the ocean. personally i think she was an idiot to fly that route close to the Marshall islands especially since she had no idea where she was most of the time. had the Japanese detected her plane they would have blown her out of the sky . even if we knew they had her nothing would be said or done. to do so would alert the Japanese that we cracked their code. she was likely advised against the flight beforehand.

From what I understand, Amelia was a very couragious and adventurous lady, but not a terribly smart pilot. She had quite a history of losing track of where she was and getting lost. Of course you had to be half crazy to fly airplanes back then - it was dangerous business. I have no doubt that she ended up in the bottom of the ocean.

wasn't much to navigate with back then in the daylight-and at night you might be able to figure out where you were, but not where the airports were-------one degree off course equals a mile every 60 -----------and if you can't hold a heading steady, even that doesn't count-------that part of the world isn't some place I'd want to go even with todays equipment------

If you want to look at some possibilities just google her planned flight routing--------some of those itols/atols???? are so small and far apart---------and the severe lack of communications between aircraft and ground stations------

I agree with Jerry. Though I've never flown anywhere over the Pacific I have spent some time on board ships and it's HUGE. For those of you that have never experienced the Pacific there are many places in this country where one can practically see forever. Western Kansas comes to mind, but it's nothing like being in the middle of the Pacific. You literally spend days with nothing but blue, the blue of the water and the blue of the sky.

If you go read the bottom of the link I provided that was not the history channel's, you'll see where there is more info that the book they're claiming this new photo came in, had dates of 1935 on it. But actually, it wasn't a book, and had no dates. Either way, if she crashed in the Pacific and is in the bottom of the ocean, how'd 2 GI's dig her partial remains up in 60 or 61, and how do you explain for all the eye witness accounts? No one is arguing that the Marines saying they saw her plane be destroyed on the air field in 1944 though. How could that happen if it was broken into pieces resting on the ocean floor some where? Obviously it would take a long while for the pieces to float or drift to any where. Look how long it took for pieces of that 777 that disappeared to finally start showing up.

Those 777 pieces were removed from aircraft and then dumped into ocean so as to mislead people from the real thing---that 777 was flown west and landed in Somlia, Yeman, Ethiopia-------

The picture was taken TWO years before her attempted flight.

how many times have they found her ? last time they survived for a few months . i dont really think we will ever know unless they find that plane . which is doubtful since they have no idea where it went down. flying into that huge storm would have put her hundreds of miles off course plus she would have been burning way more fuel than thought .if she had made it the world would have known 50 years ago .

And any military commander would have been court martialed for allowing "her" plane to be thrown on the scrap heap and burned. There are too many of us old farts around to dispute obvious BS when we see or hear it and we haven't been "indoctrinated" either like so many of the young-uns have.

I have followed Amelia's story since I was in grade school and that was in the 50's.

I was thinking more that Ryan was getting into the arena of trying to make a point when the opposition is willing to continue the discussion simply because they enjoy the exercise. My analogy, which some seem not to care for so much, is that after arguing with a pig rolling around in the mud, after a while one realizes that the pig simply likes the mud, and will say anything to prolong the romp. There is no other way for Ryan to end the discussion than to say, "I'm done."

I've stayed off this thread, 'cause I simply don't care about a lost plane & crew from "back in the day".. But I'd be curious as to your opinion, if you've a mind to.

that area of the ocean is vast and treacherous . in 1930's there was no navigation on planes other than site or sexton . with the storms she was flying into her fuel consumption would be way high and the crosswinds would have pushed her off course . she is said to have 4.5 hr of fuel left when she should circle back . i dont see her chances of turning into the storm and finding land . i watched the same show and the conclusion was really nothing. they found nothing. talked with an 90 year old woman and some old guy recalling what his dad had said. i would think in all these years some kind of proof would have come out of japan or our own military about her. the pacific is full of planes with empty fuel tanks.

And Howland Island is a spot in the middle of the ocean and if you haven't been on the ocean you have no idea.

Who is bullying you or BSing? I gave links to places that showed facts through research they have done for 20-30 years. If you have been following this story for 50 years, than you would have already knew that. I opted to be done because I could see that nothing anyone would say would change your mind and I could care less as I was just sharing it in case others hadn't seen it. Then Jerry comes in here talking about how "someone" unbolted parts off of a 777 and that that plane really landed some where else and wasn't truly lost. There's no arguing with someone who's mind is made up. Even if I am half your age it doesn't mean I'm stupid so don't treat people like they are. You have your mind made up what happened to her. Great. To me it is still unsolved. And why don't you contact those Marines and tell them their interviews are BS!
