it's further from dallas to el paso than el paso to la . i dont mind the drive as long as i dont cross the state line .

Yep, it is definitely a long drive from one side of Texas to the other; in 1960, on the "Big Grey Dog" bus, the sun was setting when we crossed from New Mexico, and the sun was setting when we crossed into Arkansas next evening.

i drive around 70 miles to see my banker. another 15 to my favorite bbq place. so it's close to 200 miles round trip.

To get an idea of the scale of moving around Texas: It's about 850 miles from Brownsvile at the southern tip to the Oklahoma border. It's only 1,000 more miles to the Canadian border. In land area, it's three times the size of the UK. But for our friends in OZ, Australia is 11 times the area of Texas.

I have an Uncle that lives in Brazoria, and another that lives in Leander and Houston. I didn't realize how large Texas actually was until we went there as kids several times.

Well, we're mostly settled in to central Texas,............... but still plenty needing to be done. The move went fairly smoothly with the cars and household items making the trip without drama. That being said, there have still been some challenges.
Internet access is thin..........only one provider, Century Link, you dial 1 800 we don't care, we don't have to, to contact them......... So now, after jumping through their frustrating hoops, we've got clunky net access via phone........... Argh better than nothing, but slow going.
Thought I would figure out how to reduce the fleet to fit the reduced garage space, but now working on plans for an additional garage.
The '32 sedan is still in Greg's shop in Wa. getting the body work done, so I'll be making a trip in a few months to bring it down here to paint and do final assembly. Gonna be a busy year or so with house projects to deal with as well.
Anyway, we're real happy with the move....... the folks here are fantastic, and the semi-country setting is wonderful.. Life is good!

Good to hear from you, Uncle Bob. The underground system that runs down our road was installed by Sprint, and they spun off the land line segment as Embarq, which then was obtained by CenturyLink. No other provider can use the CenturyLink line, so we're in the same boat. Ours is DSL, but an area upgrade to fiber optic a few years back seemed to help the speed a bit, but they only did the main loop in the rural area, not the feeder lines. It sucks to not have any competition for service.

glad your move went well. moving was a living hell for me. but we bought bare land and i spent time clearing trees and building pads for the shop . my next move will be down . looks like a cold and wet winter this year up here. already stocking firewood. doesn't get too cold down your way .

From Google Earth it appears that shine and Uncle Bob are not too far from the Texas Motorplex west of Ennis. I have relatives in and around Sherman and I'm joining a niece and nephew for a day at the drags October 15th. Really not that awful far from Don (DA34Guy) in Duncan, Ok.

Hi Unc, finally found your move thread. WOW, huda thunk. Glad the move went well and I know what you mean about giving stuff away. We wore a two wheel rut between our place and the Goodwill in Renton highlands. I ended up keeping almost all of my tools and even added a few more once in Idaho. The movers took the mill, lathe and the air compressor, the rest I hauled over, including the 34, on a 16' car hauler I bought in Idaho. Any way, enjoy your stay in Texas.

I hope you get the additional garage, shop, how does anybody get along without a shop.

Good to hear from you Jack, no matter how much junk we shed there always seems to be more. We do live an affluent life in relative terms.

Plans just got approved for the additional garage space and interviewing contractors. It's likely to be awhile getting started as the market here is growing and building trades are getting fat. Keep on keepin' on.......

i firmly believe you can build a 30x40 building and weld the doors shut , in 3 months it will be full of crap. stuff must breed at night.

Congratulations on the successful move Bob. It seems like you and Tech1 just go on and on. I have moved about five times but stayed in the Mid-Atlantic corridor. I have no desire to move again but most of the other moves were motivated by my wife. I have no funds for another build and find it keeps me financially limited just to maintain the present five vehicles even though only one is my hobby car replica roadster. I was just settling down thinking about putting in my side windows for winter when I got a temporary recall to teach again and I really am happy to be back in the game to maybe afford some upgrades for the roadster!
