Friend & mostly absent Member here Ken Thurm posted this on his FB page, and I stole it from him. No matter how much th' Professor (Don Shillady) frets about his gas mileage, this is all you really need to know or concern yourself with, and it pretty much applies to all of us, regardless the stories we tell. :rolleyes::LOL::LOL::LOL:

After examining the chart a little closer, I have discovered an error. I believe the GREEN and BLUE sections are too large...

Sooo, it has something to do with the the little right-most pedal eh? Even so the transmission must be important since the Dodge Hellcat has an 8-speed automatic and cruises over 30 mpg!

Nope, the chart is accurate, regardless what transmission you have. Hellcat with 8 speed the mileage drops as the loud pedal falls. Common sense, don't over think it! And BTW, the 8-speed with multiple overdrives only works if the cam is designed for efficiency at the lower rpm's. Cruising at 1400rpm is not going to give you the best mileage if your cam likes 2200 to 3500 for best efficiency. Driving technique does more for mileage than anything else.Quote:

I believe the purpose of any 8 speed is to keep the RPM consistent in one range. The engine struggles less, motors smooth, and viola better gas mileage.
Yep, bringing one of the new 6, 7, 8 or 9 speed electronic controlled trannys into the a discussion compared to TH350's or 700R4's in a hot rod built like a box is apples and oranges. The chart is just a smiler, not intended to be anything more than a bit of fun.Quote:
