hydroboost

I have a 85 chevy k10 after puttin a big block with a big cam on the frame then the cab i realized my valve cover wasnt all that far from original brake booster and after some research found out big cams produce poor vacuum so i decided im gonna go scavenge a hydroboost setup from the junkyard to solve the clearance and vacuum issues i already have a brand new power steering pump i was wondering if it will it work for the hydroboost or is there a difference in pumps if so i will pull that from the doner while im at it

Trucks with Hydraboost have a 2nd return line provision in the back of the housing. I'd snag the donor pump if you can. I have heard of guys adding a t in the return but have heard mixed results in that.

Agree with Ryan. Always get the factory pieces if you can, they spent a lot of money to make their pieces work together.

Buick Grand National had they hydroboost as well - make sure its 1987 or newer as the early models have an electric motor versus the power steering pump driven.

Get all the parts. The power steering pump is different.

Astro vans use HB also. I am not sure what year they started though. For the BadAst build I picked up a pump from an early eighties 1 ton Chevy truck and repurposed an HB unit from a '95 Astro.
Pay attention to the HB units as some of them come straight out from the firewall (the '95 Astro) and some of them have about a 15 or 20 degree down-angle from the firewall. I parted out a '98 Astro that had the down-angle booster.
get all of the lines as well when you are picking. You will probably want to replace them anyway but they will give you the correct length and any good auto parts store can build you new lines if you want to go that way. The fittings are only a few dollars each and the store should be able to crimp them for you.

Just get one from another full size Chevy p/u. Not sure on years but look to the diesels. I had an 85 Chevy K10, original 6.2 truck, and it had hydroboost. That way everything fits your truck. The 40 Ford tonner panel truck I'm building now will have the same one.
