Oops!
I knew that.
But it had temporarily slipped my mind.
Must be an age thing.

Time for pics! The first is the bench for the boys. I still need to find a toy vice to mount to it, paint the peg board back and install it, and finish painting the bench.
Next is the reclaimed wood bed. This is the foot board. The white boards came from a large dairy barn in Northern Iowa. I just purchased them off of CL because all the barn wood I have isn't strong enough for a bed. We still have the head board to do. There will be barn tin in the centers. The posts are actually from poles of the barn my brother and I tore down. Hopefully I can get the foot board done this week. Notching those posts is kind of a challenge for a non wood working pro. Haha
The last pic is Izzy's kitchen. The bottom piece of plywood is the stove. The black door is for the refigerator. My wife painted it with paint that allows chalk to be written and erased off it. I got the sink hole cut out this weekend. We have to make a stove top for it and finish painting it.
Please ignore the mess. There seems to be a hold on any vehicle progress, unless it generates money, until after Christmas projects are done. :whacked:
Now that is being creative! Way to go Ryan...
I can't take much credit for the ideas. They are all my wife's ideas this year. She shows me a picture on pinterest and then I have to help her draw a "plan" to make them. There may be some head butting going on but we've survived so far.
The ideas my wife has come up with is to hurry up and get the rooms painted before xmas day! LOL.
Not likely! When we had the cable installed "they" wanted to bore a hole in the floor and bring the cable into the room that way. I freaked out and said give me 15 minutes and I'll snake the wire into the wall. Which I did and now had to go back and install the box and plate. Now I'm "stealing" time at work to answer this.. rofl..
This morning I got some more work done on the foot board. I have to nail down the top board, as it is just setting on there. Then I have to cut the tin and fasten it to the foot board. This was the easy one. The head board will be more fun. Haha
Will you put a coat of clear or some kind of sealer over the wood parts?
Yes sir. I'm pretty sure we're going to put polyurethane on it once it's done. I think Allyson wants to rub off some of the loose paint on the boards with more paint on them to make it look more uniformed. I told her to have fun.
It's getting past crunch time! **) Here are the foot board and head board near completition. Now I have to make/design brackets to attach the bed frame to it and then attach the side rails. We have put some poly on it too. It is a semi gloss clear. My wife mixed up some stain and stained the areas that were fresh cuts to help it match the rest of the wood. (Please ignore the mess. I need about 2 more things to shove in here. The wife needs her own dang garage! Ha)
Looks like you've got those corrugated panels mounted firmly so they don't set up a resonant tone that wakes the neighbors....:rolleyes:;):LOL::LOL:
Lookin' like something that would sell for big $$$ at Crate & Barrel....
Oh!! So the headboard is a sound board ?:eek::eek::eek::o
JK.JK.jk.jk.
On a more.. "mature" note. You guys sure have an ability to see (and assemble) different parts and pieces and get them put together for a use that's functional and beautiful.
Thanks for sharing all the efforts with us! :)
I had to wait a while to get a clear head after I read Roger's post, to be able to reply as this bed is for my parent's. But yeah, you're right. Don't want the folks scaring off the coyotes. Haha
I will say that the bed might be as much work as tearing down the building. My wife would like to build another to sell later. I told her a lot later. The 40 will be running first.
Today I added a board to the back of the foot board to have a solid area to attach the side boards to. Tomorrow I will finish my bed mounting brackets, and hopefully get the bed screwed together. I really want this thing to be strong and all the bed mounting brackets I saw are cheesy. So hopefully the ones I made will be beef cake enough to do the job and maybe add an old look.
LOL on the parents! I'd missed who you were building it for!!:o:LOL::LOL:
I had another issue arise that put me in the wood shop again. ;) A bit of background, the 80+ years young mom of a good friend was visiting her for an overnight a few years back, to see a grand daughter's school program. In the dark of night nature called, and on the way out into the hallway she turned left instead of right, and stepped off of a stairway into a face plant against the landing wall about six feet below. She's been a quadriplegic since, residing in a full care nursing home in Abilene. An amazing lady, she accepted her fate and lives life to the fullest that is possible. She's an avid fan of her Kansas Jayhawks, watching every televised game, and even attending one occasionally. A couple of weeks back she had a visit, and was presented with a basketball, signed by the 2015/2016 Jayhawk team. Needing a place to keep her treasured ball safe, but still on display I got tagged to come up with a solution, with the caveat that it had to hang from a wall, not take floor space which is all but non-existent.
After some thought, (too much I'm sure, since I ALWAYS over-analyze everything ;)) we found a ready made display box that seemed ideal. A shelf to give it a place of honor became the solution. Here's a couple of shots of some of the native walnut that we milled from our place, leaving the live edge on the front of the shelf and the brace.

And here it is with the first coat of finish applied with the display box behind. I'm going to use a pair of simple loop hangers that extend above the shelf just a bit, and a pair of simple picture hanger studs that go in at an angle and have a round "stop" to brace against drywall, as any more permanent mounting is not allowed in the facility.

This is the kind of life event that I welcome - the opportunity to perhaps bring a big smile to the face of someone that many would say has little to live for (but they are WRONG)! Ya'll have a Merry Christmas!!
