Another day with too much time on my hands.

I've always had a soft spot for old trucks (especially unusual ones), and came across this site today. Some definitely fit the unusual criteria. Thought some of you might enjoy it.

Neat old carriers. Back in the early '60's I lived down in Noel, MO and State Highway 59/US71 ran along the river, headed south into Arkansas, the main thoroughfare before I35 was constructed, and before US71 shifted east to bypass some of the tortuous path through the edge of the Ozarks. At Noel one of he distinctive features was the limestone bluffs that hung over the roadway, dripping water from springs in the hillside, and making it very difficult to keep the roadway in good repair. That section of the bluffs in the upper left hung over the southbound lane totally. Smart truckers, who were familiar with the road, would watch traffic on the two lane road, and swing wide into the opposing lane as they went through that section, as it was pretty low. Some of those old car carriers were pushing the limit on height, and we often watched sparks fly from the top of brand new cars on their way to dealers farther south, when drivers that didn't know the road went through too fast and too far right. Ahhhh, memories of my youth.

It's pretty crazy how little of brakes and hardware some of the early rigs really had for the work they were built to do. But some of the coolest cab overs etc were built in the pre 60's time frame. They are getting scarce too!
