Probably a bit late with this suggestion jb, but if not, the cable car museum would be a good spot for you to visit. It's housed in the building that drives the cables, you can even go into the "basement" and see the way the spools and cable are routed at the head of the system...........some nifty info there too. The "grab" mechanism that the operator uses is fascinating.
