    Old grain mill restored

One of my winter projects was restoring this Magic Mill flour grinder. My wife inherited it from her Mom and I decided the wood finish and the motor needed some resto work. Just finished it today, now it will be ready for the next 50 years. Monique's mom used to bake 150 whole grain loaves of bread a week for their local Farmer's Market in Michigan back in the 70's.

Nice work! Just think, if that same quality piece was made today, it would scare you how much it would cost!

Thanks for the comments. I was having trouble with the finish, and still may sand and give a final coat, but hard to cure in the cooler weather. We are on a time line to send it south with the wife's father this next week. So probably call it good. Looks a lot better than initially! I think I'll mill some flour before it goes!

It's good to bring something like that back to a useful status. I expect your FIL will enjoy receiving it!

Roger he probably will be happy and sad at the same time. Since Gail his wife passed away last year he has been trying to clear out the house in So Cal to sell, but with 4 daughters who want to keep everything, he's had a tough go at it. In this case, he'll be taking the Mill to my wife's sister who is the big baker in the family(I initially wanted it to crack grains for beer making, but the brew supply house does this for free, and has a much better set up for it.) It does feel good to know it will be used and cared for by her. I reserve rights of return if she chooses to depart with it at a future date!

Maybe you need to make a nice label, "Property of Steve Stovens, On Loan to Aunt ________", stick it inside the working side of the drawer where it cannot be missed, and then add a coat or two of clear finish to "seal" it in place.....
