Trip to the wrecking yard

There is one old Mom and Pop wrecking yard in my area, and I have been lucky enough to be friends with the owners for many years now. The owner of the yard passed away a few years ago and it now run by his wife and son. It’s kind of turned into a by appointment only deal to go in, with the exception of a few people.

A lot of my projects came out of there over the years, including the 1 of 70 440 powered True Spirit Dodge Truck I did a few years ago. Yesterday a couple of friends of mine and I went out there and I thought you guys
might get a kick out of seeing some of the stuff.

Here is the drive coming into the yard.



A 442 and Cutlass S



A couple of old panel trucks. The Dodge is stock, but the Ford is a 50’s built Hot Rod with an Olds engine connected to the original 4 speed with an Offenhauser adaptor.



Just a 348........a friend of mine bought all the 409s 15 years ago.





Like a lot of other places and people there are certain vehicles that aren’t for sale because they “will build them someday”. This is one of those




This is what’s left a doodle bug a couple of friends of mine built out of an Oldsmobile back in the 50s (notice the homemade duals on the back. I guess they had a ball in it….and yes alcohol was generally involved.

There are a couple of Rambler 2dr wagons there that so far I have resisted hauling home.



For a time the yard was hauling in Border Patrol seizures, usually vans hauling Illegals and cars moving drugs.



Then here are a few for Dave.







Pinto Surfer wagon



It’s a shame this 67 Fairlane is so rusty (it came from New York) or I would haul it out. It’s a factory 390 car with an intact original drive train.



Finally there is this 63 ½ Galaxie. The owner of the yard and I were working on this for him before he passed away. I installed a rebuilt 390 and top loader 4 speed, changed the rear end to 3.50 gears, disc brakes, re-wired it, new hard lines etc. Basically it was ready to have the paint and body work done when he passed away. He had driven it once and it has about 15 miles on it after all the work was done.




I’ve tried to buy the car several times so I could finish it and find a proper home for it…..but they're not ready to part with it.

Anyway that was my Saturday.

Very cool, and not many of those places left as you say. We had one old family yard but right on a highway and the state and EPA got after them so they called in the crusher/chipper and turned it back into weed choked acreage....

First of all "Thanks for sharing those". I also enjoyed the scenery and the Mtn Range in the distance. I'll bet it's so dry there you can hardly spit, huh? LOL That 4 holer sure looks like it might make a Cruiser. Now, after looking at those, I'll have to go to my "old rusty project addiction Rehab meeting"!

Actually Dave there are 2 2dr 57 Ford Wagons out there (both pretty complete as I recall), just didn't get into to that part of the yard yesterday.
