Forgot this was a Ford. My bet is on the drive shaft to the pump. Either it fell out, sheared, or the little retaining ring broke allowing it to fall. As a kid I had to drop the pan in a Comet just far enough to reach in and install a new one. Part of old one was stuck in pump, just enough that you could not get it out without lowering the pan. Was stopped in a park in Colorado Springs and it took two hours including the walk to a dealer. Left the remainder of the old one in the bottom of the pan while I drove the 400 miles home.

Real bad news there,Roger.. I saw the post on fb,a little while ago,,and couldn't believe that your engine had done the dirty on ya.. I feel gutted for ya,mate..really..Hope it's only that oilpump drive that's let go.. :(
