Tom, that's actually a fact that I was previously unaware of, too! If you look at production numbers there is no listing between 1982 and 1984, and the history says that GM produced 43 pre-production units, but they all ordered to be held and titled as '84's before any were released to the public. Engineer's hid one, knowing that it was an important part of the history, and it is the white 1983 at the museum. Some people do know what there talking about
Any word on if the ones that took a dive can be saved?
The latest I saw was that work was to start yesterday on stabilizing the remaining floor, and once they have things stable they will need six days to extract the cars. The sinkhole has not expanded any more since the collapse, which is good. Once extracted GM will take the cars to their Mechanical Assembly Area within the Design Center where work will begin on all that can be restored. The report was that the dome's wall structure was not affected, and that the plan will be to use compacted fill to bring the sinkhole back to grade, and then to pour a new floor.
GM to oversee restoration of sinkhole Corvettes
Being one of the "ignorant" ones posting on this thread, I have to say that after seeing the pics of the cars that went in the hole, the black '62 wasn't the only cool one!;);):LOL::LOL:
There's a collector's showroom right across the street with some cool cars too. I wonder what's lurking under THAT building?

Another ignorant one here with a mutilated chebby. Haha........
Randy, hopefully there's no big cavernous sink hole under that floor. Lots of cool stuff in there.
And one car doesn't make it a production year. So yeah, there aren't any 83 Vettes to be bought unless you are Bill Gates.
OH SURE!! Send them from a sinkhole into a fault line!! Nope, the Galaxie needs to come to New England! The Impala - who cares! rofl..
Wasn't there a few comics who used to have a joke like that??
