Tornadoes tear through US Midwest - World - NZ Herald News
I've been on the phone a couple times today with my son who's a freshman at Michigan State (Go Spartans! Go Green!) in East Lansing. So far they're just getting torrential rain and high winds. Just in case things escalate, the students have been issued instructions to take shelter. I don't suppose you need a college education to know to take shelter during a tornado.
Pro70Z28 lives down in Coal City---they had some damage around town/country but maybe he'll be on here with some words---My Mother in law lives there also but she was at out house a little (60 miles)north--waiting for daylight tomorrow to go see damage-------
our house not out house!!!!!!!!!!!
Couple guys from work posted a vid on facebook from Coal City.
They were at some work out place.
Hope all well for your families in the area!!
We were in Morris (15 miles away) at the time, but our house didn't get hit, came within about a mile though. Because of downed power lines we couldn't see much last night. Here's a few from the perimeter.

I'll see if I can get a few more shots now that it's light out.
Lots of damage even just after a quick look!!!!
Thanks for the pics, Pro.. glad to hear you and the family is safe.
There's a lot more damage than I have shots of. I used the long lens to stay out of the way.

Anyone who's never been in an area when a tornado hits can't really fathom the extent of damage they can do!!! Thanks for the shots, Pro! Been awhile since we've had on around here, and I hope it's a long time before one shows up!!!!!
Glad everyones safe up there,Pro.. Scary looking animal,,I saw a clip on fb ,of one of them approaching a building.. N thanks.. Sorry,,but i'm glad we don't get those things down here..
Ummm . . . we do Robin.
Not as large or as powerful as that thank God.
But there was one hit around Urunui either last year or the year before that created a fair amount of damage, they also strike fairly regularly around the Oaonui area, and some ten years or so ago one hit at Opunake and killed some poor fella . . .
Man, I'm glad all of you in that area are alright! One of the most eery feelings to me is at night after a tornado has passed. You have that feeling like there could be another right behind it............ I saw on the noon news today that in Illinois there was only one death and they found the man a block I think from his house dead unfortunately. His house was leveled. Those things aren't anything to mess with. It seems really odd to be having naders in November. Crazy weather lately..........
What I find amazing is that I generally learn about a tornado event in the USA from New Zealand before I see any news of it here ;):LOL: Sunday morning I jumped on CHR, saw Robin's post and said to my wife, "Did we have tornadoes in the MidWest yesterday?" "Not that I heard about" was her reply, but a quick Google told us differently. I guess that living with "Tornado Alley" so close has dulled my senses to them somewhat....:HMMM: or at least more than Robin's.;)
Long ago when I was young we lived in Chicago in the 60s and 70s there were plenty of them there Lemont Il. Oak Lawn and right on the south side of Chicago. I have seen cars going end over end down a street that same tornado put a box car through a wall of a building on the second floor. Scary stuff
Couple yrs ago 1 went thru the South West part of town. Wiped out a neighborhood.
Some guys from work & I spent a day cutting & hauling trees.
This 1 felt different even tho it was 70 miles away.
Isulation, siding, wood particles on our driveway!!
A couple blocks from us a guy had the
" Welcome To Washington " sign in his yard!!
Ours was bad for sure but the thoughts // feelings of this one are incomparable.
We had no damage, but Morris did, & thats only a 20 min drive!!
Most definately we were & are praying for those affected
Yup,,I seem to remember posting a link on here to the World's first hot rod show,,for 2013..I posted it on the day before it happened for you guys..Hmmm:confused::confused:,,,that sounds about right...:whacked::whacked:
Might do it again in a few months,too.. hehe..:HMMM:
And,,no,,I'm not gunna give anyone the winning lotto numbers.. :p

Terrible devastation, but you took some great pictures, Pro. That last one - it's like any place that has a bunch of RV, modular wheeled, trailer type vehicles is a tornado magnet! Seems like too often the news brings the story that a tornado hit a trailer park, and they just fly apart.
And both my brother in laws have been looking at campers at that place---should be some sales on slightly marred but seriously damaged ones?
And for you guys down under---In my quest to reach a goal in life to (see tomorrow become yesterday) should I move down there or should you all move up here???????????
What an ugly mess!!!! Thanks for the pics Pro!
Not a very nice sight,pro..Those trailers got rumbled,,didn't they?? Thanx for the pix..
Jerry...Good point... I suppose,,if you are hungry for the weekend,,ya better come down now..It's Thursday,,7.35AM...:D:D..
My heart goes out to those poor buggers affected.
Even if they suffered no physical injuries they have seen the hopes, dreams, and aspirations shattered.
A lifetime's working and dreaming . . . destroyed.
All the little trinkets that make a house a home and are dear to you . . . either destroyed or gone.
I went to the dentist yesterday and had two teeth removed, it took him nearly two hours and I'm not feeling too happy today, in fact I am very small most mis'able dog; but my problems are trivial in comparison.
Our thoughts are with all those affected.
