    My lawn mower.

     



    Actually my 8N tractor. The ring gear went out so I'm changing it and while I'm in there I figured time for a clutch.

    nope seal is good on engine.. seal for trans is the one in question. The grease that was (is) in there is like cement used brake clean to loosen it. The trans uses hyd. fluid for lub. and its water soluable.

    In the late 70's my late father in law had a similar tractor and when the clutch started to slip he decided to replace it. Went to the tractor supply store in Mt Vernon, Mo. and the price for a new pp, clutch disc and throw out bearing was somewhere around $70 or so. I thought that was little high so we went to the local auto parts store and bought heavy duty parts for a 48 1/2 ton pickup. Never had a problem with it as long as he owned it and he sure wasn't gentle with it either. BTW, the cost was about a third of what the tractor place wanted.

    yeah I did that look at parts store first his p/p alone was over all the parts from the tractor place. Presure plate ,Disc, T.O. brg., pilot brg. $106.75 be here Friday

    What sort of mower are you using Charlie?
    Sickle-bar, gang, or rotary slasher?
    I only ask because those wee Ford-Ferguson things were terribly under powered, nineteen to twenty-four horses, and absolutely no torque!

    (They were essentially Ferguson; built under licence by Ford . . . incidentally,
    there's one here in New Zealand that's had a tummy transplant . . . now running a Lincoln Zephyr V12! Quite a wee beast!)

    Yes Bob an older gentlemen that lived in Mendon MI, built one just like that (may be it?) He had stock piles of old ford parts new and used. when he died Dennis Carpenter bought all of it. He had an air filter indicator on the side of the air filter clear plastic with a little J/D tractor in it.


    I run a bush hog behind it to cut 5 acers of field. If I cut it every week I can cut in 4th but most times its 3rd.

    To contain goats in an area tightly enough to get them to clear it would cost a fortune in fencing; they're notorious escape artists!
    They'll walk up the stay on a strainer and jump over a fence . . . I've seen them do it.
    And once they've escaped it's a major effort to catch them.

    Sounds good in theory though but . . .
