Got my plates and the car legal for public road use today.

Here are some interior photos. Dash, pedals, gear stick, steering wheel front screen & more is home made. The fabric is bycast leather bought for cheap on Ebay. The seats was originally light brown, but I dyed them to fit the rest of the interior. Probably not everyones style, but I wanted something different.

I'm liking that stick. Is it a converted blade or did you make it special for your Ride? I"m running a 44 mag cylinder as my knob on the '62

The stick is home made. The button is because the T56 transmission has an electric operated reverse lock.

Congrats. I recall all the work you were doing..........what?.............a decade or so back when you were working out the chassis stuff. Good to see it rollin' down the road.

Yes. I started in 2002.
By the way, I'm having trouble with exhaust smell when I drive. I think it's turbulence from behind the car that takes the exhaust forward. I have removed the Supertrapp caps. That helped some, but not enough. Made some turndown ends this morning, but haven't tested them yet. If they work well, I'll probably make a nicer pair in stainless steel.

only thing I could suggest is to put the tips where you get a draft from the movement of the car and that should send it where it belongs - - - I can see how you could be forming a pocket for those fumes to dance around in - - - also check to see if there's any leaks up front that might be doing that

I'm surprised you get exhaust smell from the end pipes but aerodynamics can be tricky so I can very well believe it can happen. Otherwise, just double check for leaks. Here's mine and I have never smelled any exhaust from out back:

As you said, aerodynamics can be tricky. I will test the turn downs tomorrow. I have checked the engine bay and couldn't find any exhaust leaks there.

I believe you you find the turn downs should work a treat but when you make stainless ones, I would add a bit of length too them, would only need a 25 mm approximately I would think. You have done a fantastic job on your build and I also like the interior and if the head rests work good for your neck, keep them and ignore any negative comments you may receive.

After a couple of seasons, the car still works fine. Have done some improvements and paintet it. Made a canvas top as well.

About the exhaust curling back....many years ago, I was reading about a Corvair that was overheating as a result of removing a flat sheet metal plate that was under the motor to direct undercar air. It seems that in an attempt to lower the weight of the car, they removed the sheet metal plate and under-car air pushed up into the motor, stagnating the hot enging air that was normally being blown out by the belt-driven fan. They replaced the sheet metal and engine temps normalized.

Perhaps if you ran the tips straight out and installed a flat sheet metal plate directly under the pipes to prevent under-car air from affecting the flow of exhaust gases, you might stop the problem. Looking at the rest of the car, I'm certain that with your level of workmanship, you could cobble up something that would look like the factory should have done it. I'm thinkin' that you might even want to put a bend in the plate to angle it down slightly toward the end of it, sort of like a spoiler on the trunk lid of a car, except upside down. It shouldn't cost too much to experiment with different designs. I think I would try to seal off the plate to the underside of the car, so that no air came up on the top of the plate.

to study the air flow pattern back there-tape several lengths ( 12 inches to 24) of neon colored yarn string to several places on the body and then photograph them at various speeds from another vehicle ---------Air tunnel research on the cheap-----but do take them with still camera shots at speed increments in order so you can go back to same exact pic/speed/airflow pattern---videos don't work for this level of research---------

Good to see you back and more importantly, still having fun in and with your amazing car. Glad that others have jumped in re your exhaust issue you were having as I too wondered if you had fixed the problem. I like your removable roof too as I'm sure you would need it up there Norway.

The exhaust problem is more or less solved.
Most of the smell came from a very tiny exhaust leak under the car and throught a hole in the floor for the emergency brake cable.

A small winter project is to lower the seats an inch. This will make the driving position more comfortable and make the head rests less visible.
