For the central states our tornado/flood season is generally towards Spring, the April, May, June time frame varying year to year - this year has been quite wet and extended some. That said, storms creating tornado's can crop up into the summer, too, but are less frequent as everything evens out in temperature. As for the temperatures, we are 180 degrees out of phase with your norm, so the weeks after October will be getting cooler, heading into Fall, then Winter. You've picked an ideal time to travel across middle America. The extreme heat of July & August should be gone, transitioning into cool nights and wonderfully warm days. I expect that we can keep the alcohol level moderated to an acceptable level. ;):):):)

Well, heck, Johnboy, if you're coming as far west as the Pacific ocean, you should give a shout. I live just down the street! It would be great fun to swap colloquialisms with ya and, being a native "Okie" I could probably communicate "purty good" with your buddy from Perry.....:LOL::LOL: and maybe even throw in a little "Valley speak".....like totally, dude!:LOL:

thats absolutely the best period of the year for that drive---temps are moderate everywhere except the heat in Arizona and its on the way down----------Do you want any suggestions for little side trips or sovineer? shops? Theres a real good little shop on 66 in western Mo where you can get very nice coffee cups, hats, rt 66 license plates/plate holders----------

I think any compensation will be appreciated, lodging and meals would be generous around here, hope you guys have a great trip. If you find yourselves in northern California around Petaluma, drop me a p.m. and I'll buy yah a beer!

That sounds like a damned fine idea to me!
The Santa Monica pier is a 'mandatory must see' to any Route 66 trip, and if you're 'just down the street' it would be a shame to not make contact.

and gleaned a lot of information from them.

However there's nothing like talking to the man who's 'been there done that'.
So anything that is in your opinion is a 'must do' or a 'never do' would be greatly appreciated!
