I don't think it's just you R2.. Seems a few folks have been complaining about the same topic lately.
Join the 'happy' crowd Randy. I lost mine last week
Ever wonder why membership is waning??
Dave, I'm not even getting notices for my own threads.....LOL!
Same here. I just view the new threads to see what's going on.
Bill mentioned some time back that he's working several days each week with his wife getting a family estate settled, in addition to trying to figure out his next career step. He's a busy guy, and access to the forum is via smart phone which is OK for looking at stuff, but not so much fun for trying to "do things" that need attention. Still he's been on top of things, but quietly in the background but not visible lately.
Not sure about Brent, other than he's got his "day job" that puts food on the table in addition to several forums he works. It gets frustrating for us folks that are on here a lot, and I agree new folks might not take time to learn the work arounds to find stuff, like your own thread after a couple of days.....:(:HMMM: If you're away for a week or two it's all but impossible to know what you've missed....it's buried in archives, and no way to search simply by date.
I understand that Bill is busy and that Brent is as said above. But I've had my trials and tribulations with family and jobs as well, like probably near 100% of the rest of the folks here over 40-50 years old. It never halted the rest of my life. Unfortunately the fact is that they have created a mess from a very good social media that had the attention and support of literally thousands of interested parties. Maybe it's time for Bill to step back and relinquish his mod status (or should I say operator status) and maybe it's time for Brent to consider the sale of these assets to someone who really cares about maintaining this formerly interesting forum. Making excuses, a single operating moderator and a disinterested owner really doesn't solve the problems that have existed since before the 'big change' 18-24 months ago. At this point, I'm considering this a dying forum. Yeah, I'll probably, out of habit still check in occasionally, but really don't see any positive upward changes happening, so again, and as before will limit myself to an occasional post - that is unless I get banned for this post for stating the obvious.
So, from this we should determine that it's far better to complain about CHR then to actually participate in a positive manner????
Some of us will probably stay here, doubt there is such a thing as a perfect forum or a perfect world!!!!!!
I can't speak for anyone else, but any time I've had a problem I've sent a PM to the guy I thought could maybe address it. I agree that there are some features on here that I'd like to see "fixed", but "fix'n" is not always so easy to do when working within a commercial platform. I'm just thankful that we continue to have some folks on here who enjoy doing the work, take time to post what they're doing occasionally, and who know a whole lot more than me about a whole bunch of things, 'cause I often need lots of help!!
Well, I'm not a computer guru and have little knowledge of what it really takes to keep a site like this up and running but I do know that as a participant, it can be pretty frustrating when things don't work properly.
I do know that since joining in '07 (Egad, has it been that long??) I've met (online at least...;)) some really great people and learned a ton, so the thought of it going "downhill" is really kinda depressing!:CRY:
Here's hoping the "powers that be" read these posts and fix the problems!!
Now, along with not getting notifications, the threads with new posts are no longer appearing in "Bold"......:(
I hope they fix it or come up with a way to fix it. I really appreciate all the info and help that is provided on this site. There isn't bickering about what is traditional and everyone seems to have a great time helping each other. That's the way I've understood this hobby to be.
Surprise, surprise!! I got a couple of notices today!:D I'm guessing there should have been more but, hey, it's an improvement!!;)
It's weird how one day you get some and a few days nothing.
Me too!
.
And it didn't take 3 hours to only load half a page! ( NO exaggeration!) :-(
It seems that I'm getting the notices now. Yay!! Thanks to whoever is responsible.:3dSMILE:
Hmmmm.....is this happening again??
Well, I stopped receiving notices several months ago. I checked and re-checked my settings, never changed anything, but they stopped anyway.:( Then, a month or so ago I started getting them again:)... for about a week... and then they stopped again. I hate to see this site disappear; it's been one of my favorites for a long time. Everyone here has always been friendly and helpful, not a bunch of flamers like another popular site. It's also a shame we've lost some long-time contributors like Ken Thurm, Itoldyouso, and Brianruppnow. What happened to make them leave??... Oh well, I'm still here and I'll be one of the "last dogs to die"...
I been getting them right along????
I asked the question again because yesterday I didn't receive notices of several posts to my other thread and some that I subscribed to. Maybe it's a one day glitch. Who knows??:HMMM:
Randy, I've been getting mine. How did you set your 'Notification Type' for your subscriptions. Through control panel, Instantly, Daily or Weekly? I have only one set at Daily, the others are set Weekly.
Mike
Guys,
I've sent a note off to Brent.
Also for clarification:
Brent has access to the database and server
I have access to the moderation functions only (and some database functions, but not on the server level).
I have not asked for, nor would I want access to the full database and server :D .
