One of Dodge`s worst....
Yep, that's pretty ugly!! But it's funny how after some time passes, some of these hideous cars actually start to take on some kind of attractive charm....perhaps because they represent some of the risk takers of an era or something. However, I NEVER see that sorta feeling happening with the Aztec!!!!:LOL:
:LOL:Back when I was traveling quite a bit for business I walked out to my assigned space at the rental car lot to find an Aztec :( I turned around, walked back inside and asked for something else. The girl at the counter said, "Is there something wrong with the car, sir?" "Everything is wrong with that car!!":LOL: I got a Malibu...;)
HotRodPaint I have a hard time believeing that you think the 59 Cad is ugly. All the lines and tall fins yells Be-u-ti-ful. I do believe that the AMC pacer and Gremlins were nasty. Oh well to each his own.
You are absolutely right about the "to each his own" idea.
I make my living as a custom painter, so I learned a long time ago that ..."there is no right or wrong when it comes to art and design".
For me the goal is to satisfy the owner... and hopefully the general public too. Sometimes that broad acceptability is not within reach of the owner's personal taste.
I don't know if I would want a 1959 Cadillac for myself... but I agree with you that they have a "beauty" of their own.
I guess my curiosity is how a car done to that extreme level of styling can be accepted... but the Edsel and others could not be accepted... even though they were more conservative, and closer to what is generally considered "normal"?
Which is more obnoxious.... the Edsel's horsecollar grill? ....or the Flash Gordon styling" of the '59 Caddy bodywork? It's a puzzle!
No matter what you think of the Edsel-------the reason ford cancelled them was that they were taking sales from Ford and Mercury dealers---------since the Mercurys were from Lincoln/Mercury dealers and Fords from Ford dealers-----------the Edsel dealerships were sold to competing brands dealers---mostly what I remember is American motors, Studebaker,Kaiser, etc dealer groups-caused a bigggggggggggggg backlash-
they didn't have the effect of getting BOP customers from GMC---------
Here's a new entry in the world of "Fugly"!!! Not exactly a production car but plenty ugly just the same!!!
1959 Dodge Coronet pickup Ratrod :eek::whacked:
I should say something positive...
You won't have to worry about another one parking next to you! :-)
How about a 1950 Nash?
Ok, HRP, since you played the "Nash" card, here's a whole new kind of ugly!!! I don't even remember what this is. I saw it at the Petersen Auto Museum in LA a couple of weeks ago.....:whacked::whacked:

i love those old nash's
"I know what that is .. it is a 40 ford that got rear ended by a whale."
GOOD ONE!!! :-)
"i love those old nash's"
...and I haven't even started talking about the Henry Js and Kaisers!
I knew this would be a controversial subject, since personal taste can vary so much.
Many many cars remind me of the old saying... "It's so ugly, it's cute!" {:-)
I have to confess, I love some of the old fugly cars too... and would build some of them... but that doesn't undo the fugly DNA. {:-(
