Sorry to here anyone dies, but the Edsel is still fugly LOL Have you ever ask why no one can find one, there is a message there. I am pretty sure it is not because road and drag racers used them up.

Those thoughts came to me, and will come to others. The article said he had other accomplishments, but they were overshadowed by the bad ink that the Edsel got.
One of my thoughts was that Ford Motor Company spent millions thinking it would sell! I actually liked the push buttons on the steering wheel hub!
Personally I think there were plenty of others just as ugly, but the press went after the "pretzel" big time.
It reminds me of how the press is still "making up people's minds for them", instead of just reporting the unbiased facts. :-)
That's tellin' it like it is HRP! People who've never even sat in one tell how bad they were! But they have no first hand knowledge! And many of the designs of that period were ..."extreme" let's say..
The Edsel was put together to get Buick, Pontiac and Oldsmobile customers---Thee were 4 models, built on two different wheel base chassis(Ford & Merc) The problem was that instead of getting BOP buyers, it went to Ford and Mercury buyers so Ford Motor Company didn't gain any market share-------
They did have some neat original engineering/design features besides the Grille---and the Canadian models were a little different yet---- I took one of the E475(torque number) 410 cubic inch motors and put it in my 2 door ex dept of agriculture 59 ford and showed the world and all the 409 chevies the way down the road-----
We use to call 'em an Ethel.
Reminded me of the "Sledsel" at the Last KC Goodguys....

The Sledsel is one of the nicest Edsel's I've seen, I remember when you first posted that picture Roger... Got to admit I still keep looking for an Edsel to build, either a 2 dr. hardtop or sedan! I think the design was too radical for it's time.

If you really think about it, there were lots of cars... some very popular models... that were not what you would call "sleek", beautiful", or "sporty".

There is an Edsel farm not a mile from our house, he probably has 30 or more, ragtops, wagons, and I think a retracto top. I still think they are Fugly...
