Thread: Skunked!!

We had a couple in the yard and the dogs would always chase'em and "get it"... We called the local animal control to see what we could do about them. Since the dogs were tangling with them they allowed us to trap'em, even loaned us a cage.

So the first couple of nights I caught every neighborhood cat.. Then the wife said I should re-try on a Sunday night. And sure enough, Monday morning I had a skunk in a cage. Well, I had never considered what to do with the critter if I had caught it! After a few minutes thinking, I grabbed a trash barrel and filled it with water. Then I was thinking how do I get that into the barrel while it's spraying everything? So I grabbed a roll of plastic and covered myself and as I was walking up to the cage I was getting sprayed and it was horrible!! I was gaspin' and gaggin' but I got it done.

Never had another issue with them after that.

Yeah, as I recall the state info on suggested methods for euthanizing a skunk didn't include that one!!

HMmm.. you don't think asking a skunk to swim is humane??? I figured he smelled bad and needed a bath!

I was thinking more of wrapping oneself in plastic?? That, with the skunk oil running down the plastic, is one of those Kodak moments (for those who remember Kodak...) that should have been caught!!

Honestly the tears and the coughing / choking would've prevented any thoughts of getting a picture!!
