Congratulations, Charlie! Congratulations to Charlie's Mom as well.

A sailor who is first in his/her class in A school gets first pick from the list of duty assignments. That honor is well deserved.

At least that's the way it was when I graduated from Engineman A school at Great Lakes. I'll have to admit that I wasn't exactly at the top of my class. I'll also have to admit that this took place a mere 62 years ago so things may have changed just a little(?) since then.

We had a plenty of choices ranging from "battlewagons" and carriers down to tugboats, wood hulled minesweepers ......... all sorts of good stuff! I opted for a Destroyer Escort (DE750) that operated out of Charleston. It turned out to be good duty.

Enjoy yourself,

Jim
