If you think that walnut is worthless you haven't priced firewood lately.
And, I don't know about your neck of the woods, but around here, lots of folks like to hang around fire barrels, and for them, pine is fine.

Yeah but that tree was a treasure! Now I can't even get a decent log out of it. The pines (in this shape) are worthless around here, We harvest trees once a year, to help pay the taxes, potentially lost 30 to 40 trees, you can do the math.
And they say money doesn't grow on'em!
i love working with walnut. it's one of the easier woods to work. i use a lot of exotic wood on dashes and consoles.

One of our local muso's died a few years back...couple of years later his widow rang me...she was shifting to the big smoke, and there was a lot of 'stuff' she wanted to get rid of.
Their kids had picked out what they wanted, and anything I didn't take was going to the dump.

Is the Pope Catholic?

This bloke actually made instruments...so I finished up with lots and lots of really first class veneers...kauri, rosewood, walnut, you name it.
It's all stacked away carefully in my shed...I'm picking a lot of it will go into the interior of the bus...if we ever manage to get it on the road!
