Winter Sucks!!

I totally agree about the inconvenience of Winter! We have not had snow here in mid-Virginia yet but some in the Blue Ridge. It makes no difference to me even though it has been in the 30s F every morning because I do not have a heated garage and I want to do many minor adjustments to my roadster. Over Thanksgiving I gave my 30's newlywed daughter and her husband some quick one-mile test runs of the roadster before it had a top and they enjoyed the ride but I nearly got pneumonia! I am finally over that very bad head cold and now have a top so I repeated the one-mile-tour of a back road loop today to keep a promise to my grandson for a ride in the roadster but this time we did not use the rumble seat and actually the Vintage Air three speed heater was "toasty" with the new cab top and side curtains. I visited a friend who is restoring/building a '31 A Pickup with a modern five speed and a '55 Chevy rear but he is keeping the Model A engine!!?!! Well he has a garage with full drywall and a large ceiling heater so he can work on his car all the time. Unfortunately I have put up several long shelves that would have to be removed if I were to try and insulate the garage and add drywall. Thus with only a 1/4" of sheething over the 2x4 framework of my garage the small electric heaters I have will do no good from December through March. That is frustrating to me but I can't work in the cold so I hope Spring comes early this year!

went to Cabellas today---probably 2-300 people waiting in lines for guns, number posted on the screen was 2980(at about 1PM)
you could buy limit of 10 boxes of ammo without standing in gun line and check out at regular lane---most people in ammo area were speaking foreign language----------???????????????

Woke up this morning to only a couple inches of slush. Seems our storm along the coast kept switching between rain and snow.
A town about 20 / 30 miles northwest of here got over 12 inches!

So after I have my morning coffee, I'll get out there and run a shovel. I'll snap a picture for the cardiologist too!:rolleyes:

Another 5-6 inches of fresh snow this morning and at 18* the diesel tractor wont be easy to start - the block heater went the 'old heater heaven' on Friday. I either build a fire under it or get the little 24" walk behind clunk started - and that one will 'hurt' since I pulled neck muscle yanking it out of the snow the other day when it got stuck. Maybe I'll just stay in and soothe it with some of the Johnny Walker Double Black I got for Christmas - and not worry about the lousy (normal for this time of year?) weather.

PS - Got the tractor started and immediately ran out of fuel - PITA in the middle of the backyard, foot plus of snow with a diesel and repriming the injectors. Even worse, needed to do the front walk with the little walk behind - and the Harbor Freight Honda GX200 clone went 'clank'. Minimal compression, will only run a moment with starting fluid - deadern a doornail. Looks like a trip to HF for a $99 replacement. The tractor - have a glue-on-the-pan block heater coming. Then there are the five air bleed valves on the house base board hot water heating system that are seized with calcium ........ those are also enroute and the gurgling will continue for a few more days.

I HATE WINTER!!!!!!!!!!!

winter in deep dixie is`nt so terrible as we only have really cold weather around this time .. really cold being in the single digits over nite .. it would`nt bother me near as bad if i had a heater in any of my toys as there are still sunny if not cool days that i could enjoy a cruise lap .. my pinto has a piece of a heater but it takes 2 hours driving to get the interior above the outside temp .. if i had something like a new BOSS or Shelby mustang the weather would`nt concern me a bit cept for wet days or the rare ocassion when the white stuff does fall ... one of my goals this next year is to acquire another 69 stang but it be totally a stocker with working heat .....

Well, I'll try to be sympathetic Steve!!!!!!:LOL::LOL: Around here we probably won't see 36 for a daytime high temp for better then a month!!!!!

Cut the hedges this morning; mowed the lawns this arvo, and did some welding (outside) for my trailer re-build...

Might get She Who Musr Be Obeyed to give me a haircut shortly...long hair is not the best in warm weather...

Being in the southern hemisphere our NZ friends are heading into their summer now, about December through February, then around March or April they'll be talking about the cooler weather coming, peaking lows around June to July into August, especially down in the south island region. I'd like to visit there one of these days when I can pry Grandma away from the babies.

Yup,likewise Roger,,and any of you other dudes who want to escape your winter for a while..**)**) Johnboy and I are only several miles apart,,but it takes 45-50 minutes to grt from one side of the hill to the other..:LOL::LOL: and he's further up the slope than us...:D
Plus,it RAINS...real long and hard some days...Thats why we live in one of the greenest parts of the country...
