    Contributor Status

I haven't been on much for a bit, but this morning I got the following e-mail which pushed me to post a question. The e-mail received under a title, Paid Subscription Expiry:
    Dear rspears,
Your access to the paid subscription "CHR Contributor" is about to expire.

If you have selected a recurring subscription you will be automatically billed for the renewal, else to renew this subscription you must visit http://www.clubhotrod.com/payments.php

If you do not extend your subscription, access will be removed.
    All the best,
    Club Hot Rod Forums
I must say I hate being dunned for contributions by any group, and the veiled threat of "access will be removed" really hits me wrong. Can someone explain to me what extra "access" I have enjoyed as a "Contributor"? Bill? Brent?

    With all due respect,
    Roger

That helps a bit, because I had never seen that partial explanation before - I contributed before that feature had been added. However, there is no explanation of what added benefit one gets with any of the different values, which range from $20 up to $200 My question stands.

    Again, with all due respect,

Roger, when I became a contributor I actually had less access. I was not allowed access to the CHR home page and a couple of other places that I don't even remember now because it became a mute point.

I still get this message when I login to the home page,

"Mike52, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1.Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2.If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."

I exchanged numerous messages with Brent trying to explain what was happening, I even asked to be removed from Contributor status (and he could keep the $$) if it meant I would go back to 'normal' access. Unfortunately nothing happened, it fell on deaf ears. On a side note, as a test, I registered under a new user name and had full access to all the CHR sections that I had before becoming a contributor. Needless to say, I wasn't very happy, I still check in daily, I just don't participate as much now. It's like I'm a 'Contributor' that became a 'lurker'.

As you can imagine, I will not be 'extending my contribution' as I feel certain access has already been removed.

I have the same thing happening to me. And Dave Severson must have it happen to him as he told me of a work around....

    Mike,
This is the longest sequential time I have been on here in weeks, as I was hoping for an explanation and have checked back in several times. I get that same "...no permission..." message every time I click the home page, too, but I just click it a second time and it always opens. Frustrating to say the least. I can't say I disagree with your assessment, or your plan.

Still hoping for an explanation, but not holding my breath.

Hmm...Let me look into this! I'm sorry for the troubles, fellas. Not quite sure what is happening with the page giving you a permissions problem. That obviously should not be the case.

About the message, that could be better worded to say the least...sort of came with the software. The contributor status is for a year, which gives you more gallery space and PM's, etc...

    Brent/Bill,
I could care less about gallery space - don't use it, and likely never will. Can you clarify exactly what you mean by "...PM's, etc", and can you amplify on any differences between a contributor at the $20 level compared to higher amounts or is it a digital switch - one either is or is not a contributor?

That is strictly a Brent question,

That analogy may be closer to reality...... but then I'm from Kansas, so the Wizard of Oz reference and the ruby slippers are close to home here.

For what it's worth, I've been getting the same "no permission" message when I first click on my CHR icon, too, but as soon as I click on "todays posts" it goes away and I seem to have full access. I don't know what it means but will be interested to see what you find out......
