Two notes, Amazon has a good selection of them many brand names, also Nikon USA sells refurbished units with warranty. Most of the newer stuff will run video as a standard, that will not be a hard thing to get as an option. If anyone know cameras it is Brent Mills fyi..

For the most part the Nikon refurbs are overstock or demos. The 9100 point and Shoot to supplement my DSLRs that Santa is bringing me for Xmas was called a refurb. It isn't. It's a brand new camera tho has only a 90 day warranty and didn't come with a useless 64mb memory card. Another source that I use for good prices on, especially, used Nikon lenses is here: Buy & Sell New & Used Cameras . KEH also has some great prices. I have way too many $$ tied up in lenses to consider even thinking of changing to Canon. But, with that said, both brands are well worth looking at even though both have their duds. Heck, even my two D70's perform better then any 35mm film camera I've owned, it's just an older model with good lenses and still with more gizmo functions then 99% of snap shot takers can even figure out or use.
One more note - I was in Best Buy yesterday - they had SanDisk 8gb Ultra SDHC 20x cards on sale for ~$9. I bought 2 and may go back Monday for 2-3 more as we have a little video camera which virtually "eats" 4gb cards up very quickly even at the mid setting

I chose Canon because on our trip out west around several national parks---all the orientals (Jap'Chi) had Canons---all of them, nothing else------
Two comments:
1) When I was shopping I found that no matter where I looked I could not come close to the "bundle price" that I found at the big box stores that buy in bulk. Costco was my choice, but others were very close if you could find the same "bundle". Most important is that the "bundle" has to match what you want to buy. I thought that I could save money by buying a camera body, and then shopping for one of Canon's "refurbished" lenses - I would have spent nearly $300 more than the "bundle" deal at Costco, not counting the cost of a made to fit camera bag and the 8GB memory card that came with the "bundle" (yes Dave W, I checked B&H for the camera body).
2) On-line marketing is getting much more sophisticated, with the big players watching ads and pricing by their competitors, and shifting their pricing just enough to come in first in the "find lowest price" searches. Often they only hold that price for a short period of time, or until they sell some pre-defined number of units. One cannot predict these price fluctuations, and it can be very frustrating if you're a discriminating shopper, surfing site to site trying to decide, only to come back to find the price higher than it was a few hours before. Equally frustrating can be making the buy, and then finding that the price is now lower than you paid. For example, yesterday Costco dropped their price on the Canon EOS 60D that I bought last week by $50! Sure, I wish I had waited and got the lower price, but I got a smokin' deal on what I bought, so no need to cry. The point is, if you see a good deal on-line it may not be there next week! Then again, there's no guarantee it won't be a better deal next week, either!!
Roger--a couple weeks ago Costco had that with a $50 rebate--then I saw it at Best Buy
I think that with Costco warranty that you can return it and they'll honor the lower price!!!!!!!!!
Plus---------I been over at the science store--getting an adapter for our new telescope for the camera and waiting for the 12volt power pack to arrive that runs the computer controller and motor head on the telescope-----( Costco Celestron Nexstar102gt)
and also, I got a pair of new cylinder heads/titanium valves sitting beside my chair!!!!!!!!!!!!
billy I have a GoPro & a Replay XD. Both do a good job. the GoPro has a wider viewing angle, the replay less so the image isn't as fisheye looking.
The 90mm 1:1 macro lens showed up.

On the telescope, they don't list the Nexstar 102GT on-line, but I saw in a star gazer forum that many of the stores had special purchased them, and that they are marked down locally - some say $200 and some say there was a further drop to $150. Good reviews from the stargazer sites, too! Only issue is a bit of vibration, but solved with an underslung sand bag, or a stiff bungee to the deck.

The Costco out here on I35 in Lenexa only had the display model of the 102GT remaining, and the big lens had lots of finger prints (or worse :HMMM:) marked down to $130, which is a pretty deep discount. I doubt one could get a price match at that level, as it's their advertised pricing that they go by, not the display price. Looks like quite a scope for less than $200! One of the stargazer sites had a guy's writeup saying that he had substituted some eyepiece lenses that he already had to boost the magnification, and he was stunned by the results - even using a 2X barlow it was crystal clear. At the Bushnell Outlet today the cheapest reflector they had with motor drive was in the $325 range - didn't really pay attention to the magnification details.Quote:
