difference between comedy and tragedy

when i stub my toe.
thats a tragedy.
when someone else falls down an open manhole.
thats comedy.........

If they don't get hurt.Just had a friend fall 16' down a elevator shaft cause he wasn't paying attention..

I used to work with a guy who said 'all humor is based on the result of someones misfortune'. Since then, I have come to the conclusion that he was pretty much right on.
