Did you ever start a day off wrong?

I have been working on getting my 50 Ply wagon together. I finally have it in epoxy primer and am going to drive it a year in primer before I paint.
Have been doing little things that take lots of time most everyday, before work and after.
On the weekends I get up with the thought I am going to get one specific thing done on the car and usually accompolish just that.
Saturday, got up and got a job done, took 5 hrs. Feeling good and having the job done, I went to a local car show to see some friends.
Got up Sunday and was going to spend the whole day in the shop. Number one thing to do..........sand,primer and paint the custom console I have for the wagon. Removed the bolts that hold it in, put it on a rolling cart and started wet sanding. Dried it off, dusted primer on bare spots, then applied a light coat of satin black paint.Waited 15 mins. for flash ,applied anothe heavier coat. Went into house, got another cup of coffee and came back out for final coat. put on last good wet coat and it looked great. As I rolled the cart with one hand and sprayer in other hand, the cart hit a seam in the floor and the console went to fall off. Natural reaction to grab it came into play. Fingerprints in fresh paint from left hand and deep indents in the wet paint from right hand with sprayer.
At that point I put sprayer down, wiped off paint from hand, pushed cart with console to a corner and politley turned off lights and went back into house. Told my wife, am done for the day as it started off bad already and can not see any good things happening the rest of the day.
Sometimes you just have to walk away and start again on a new day.

One thing for sure - - - - you need to start today off with some sand paper in each hand !

To answer your question "yes, more times than I care to think of" !

Oh no that's NEVER happened in MY shop......and then I woke up and headed out to the shop for the day. :LOL::LOL:

Last I grabbed for as it fell was a battery for a model airplane engine that I had running on a mount clamped in a vise--seems like I got the battery before it cleared the swing of the propeller----dozens of stiches later I realized that I wouldn'd be able to go on my flight the next day (June20) and I was going to miss the trip to the Artic circle north of Fairbanks ,Alaska to see the midnight sun!!!!!!!!!!!! thats still on my list of things to do-------

Been there,done that..Even more fun when you have done all of the above,,but it's the last coat of 2 pack clear that you have put on,,and a glancing blow just tips the point of balance,and it hits the floor,dents the article as well,,so you gotta start all over again,,AND it only happens at the beginning of an otherwise perfect day...:(:whacked::whacked: Count to ten (at least twice),and walk away..:HMMM:

Thank goodness there was not any power equipment involved. I was attacked by a weed eater with a ninja blade in April and still cant use my right hand worth a hoot.

i had some days like that . when i worked as a painter i had a car all set to shoot. it had been a repaint before but sanded good .i was not thinking it needed to be striped it was still a new car shot the base down went back in the booth started to put the clear down and all the paint started to lift off the car ..five of thinner and many paper towel s and many choice words got the job done . i loved it when i would hanged new tin on the side of a car then do a blend to the old finish then take the masking tape off the rest of the car only to find that the tape pull off the old paint yep i been there .yep some days lunch hour were at the bar

When it comes to days that turn to custard; I've not just 'read the book, seen the movie', I wrote the book and directed the movie!

Lately I seem to be having a problem in trying to keep my Fingers on my Hands-

About a Month ago, I was cutting some Hose shielding, the Razor Blade slipped and I just about cut off the end of my left index Finger-it's one of those moments where you really don't want to look at what you just did (the feeling of the Blade cutting through my Finger was one where you almost want to pee your pants! :eek:)-

Then, the very next weekend I was drilling some holes to mount a new Stainless Fuel Line, and the drill bit went through the metal a little faster than I expected, and I smashed my right thumbnail-it's now growing out black, and a new, lower fingernail is growing under the upper-

Last weekend I was cutting some 18 gauge CRS, and the 3" cutoff tool slipped-it went right through the Glove I was wearing (I was trying to safer-I promise! :whacked:), and it cut about a 3" trench n my left hand-

So, if you see some gimpy old guy walking down the street with bloody hands trying to hold onto his Coffee Cup, make way or I just might Bleed on you, cuz I can't hurt you-I can't even make a Fist!

My Wife is now threatening to ban me from my Shop (or, is it myself?)-

Gotta treat 'em careful. They won't grow back.

I nearly took two fingertips off in an electric fan, I have a newfound respect for electric fans!

My left hand has 4.55 fingers on it.

Oh, yeah! Ya done good, putting it in the corner and turning off the lights. Some days are just that way. I am prone to taking on a different project, though, if one goes haywire like that. If that next one goes awry, I have been known to seek out a chair I can't fall out of, and just veg for the rest of the day.

Almost every one of the above personal disasters have happened to me. I still have all of my fingers - and have had my share of other kinds of non-life threatening kinds involving tools and parts. My table saw kicking back has done a couple .......

Several years ago, Sharon and I were getting ready to go to the airport to fly to Las Vegas for the weekend. First, the car wouldn't start due to corrosion between cable end and battery post. Fixed that. Started toward the airport and realized we didn't have enough gas to get there, so stopped to get some gas (already running way late). While putting gas in the car, noticed that one of the tires was low. Aired the tire, paid for the gas and sped to the airport to make the flight. Found a park in the shuttle lot and waited for the shuttle bus. It arrived and the driver attempted to open the door for us to enter. It was stuck and no amount of effort would make it open. The driver said he would radio for another bus, but I said no thanks. I put the luggage back in the car and we went back home. I explained to Sharon that this trip was not meant to be and that if we persisted, we'd be in the news later that day. You just have to know when to quit.

For some reason I wanted to use my tractor, so walked up to the tractor shed to get it.
Then I noticed one rear tyre was soft.
So walked back to my workshop to get my little compressor.
The compressor is about 2'6" high but has a wheel track of about 12" so is top-heavy and awkward, okay to move around the workshop, but a real pain to drag across 100 yards of paddock.
Got it there, then walked back to get the air hose.
Back to the tractor shed.
Looked in my pocket for the chalk I'd put in there to mark on the tyre when the valve would be at the top.
In my fight with the compressor I'd turned the chalk to dust.
So back to the workshop for another piece.
While I'm about it I'd better check all four tyres, 12 psi rear, 28 psi front.
Then drag the compressor back to the workshop.
And another trip to return the air hose.

About an hour after I set out I finally drove the tractor out of the shed.

Then when She Who Must Be Obeyed asks "What did you do today dear?"...and then gives you a 'look' when you reply "Umm, nothing"...

Four days into a three week vacation to the Colorado Rockies, I called it all off because of a couple of days like that, and drove home to SoCal and finished building our patio and poured some sidewalks. Like TechInspector said, sometime you just have to know when to quit. :HMMM::)

Last week I was printing out panels for a billboard (2 sided 12'x20'). I had one panel to go but had a deadline lettering job to do out of town. When I returned I tured the laptop on to finish the last panel & the laptop died. :eek: Ran to the store, picked up a replacement, came home & ..................... the printer software was no where to be found........ Called my supplier & he got a copy to me, but, the new software DOES NOT have the old ICC profiles. Those are the files that tell the printer how to apply the ink to various media. So........ now I can't match the color of that last panel.:eek::eek: Over the weekend we're going to see if we can find the old profile somewhere on the net. If not I will have to reprint one of the 12'x20' sides all over again... :whacked:
This is also the first of what may be several billboards for the company, so just a good match isn't good enough. :CRY:
