Thats a watts link age on the bottom of the ford 9 incher
rear suspension has coil over schocks on there side with a lever to operate
Jerry, it's a '69 Firebird with a '69 Camaro Rally Sport front end and what looks like billet '69 Camaro Rally Sport horizonal split tail lamps??? Damn nice looking car regardless what it's called. For the suspension experts among us, do you think the fancy (different) rear shock setup is as functional as conventional mounting?
Mike
If the shocks have the correct valving, no reason the horizontal coilovers wouldn't work. It does save a lot of space above the rear end housing. Same principle has been used on IFS for years, works good there so it should do fine on a solid rear axle.
Sorry about calling it a firebird------------
Has a lot of nice looking work, but in my view they hurried it as per the typical tv show (or whatever) some bolts are way too long, etc-----
I believe that the rocker arms that work the coil overs are too short to be able to deal with any significant amount of vertical travel------------and some brackets are marginal--look at the mounts for the inner end of the coil overs---that mount needs to support the corner weight of the car??????????
True, on a car that was going to be driven or even raced a lot of the material would need to be built much stronger then the way it is now. I think on a show car we'd have to call a lot of these components "artistic license"????
I have been used as a judge a few times---and some of these mods would help---------but, There are lots of little basic things that distract from the overall integitry of the build and purpose--- this car was drawn by Foose who is a Cal Poly person capitalizing on his Dad's name and reputation
Wiring hanging loose, rusty, un painted parts, tail pipes welded solid to floor tub-----------
bidders only went $100,000---owner wanted more, so it didn't sell!
Just goes to show that quality over rides brand names. Glad it failed to bring the price.
This really got my attention "tail pipes welded solid to floor tub" ratrod engineering at its finest.
underneath they were supported with hangers but the tail pipes near the rear were fabbed solid to stay in the notch/hole for the tips
