It would appear that once again the innovation of the Japanese is nothing short of amazing. The new Mazda CX-5 squeaks out 155 horsepower from 2 liters (no big deal) but they do it with a 14:1 compression ratio engine! To address the additional heat, they inject fuel at 2900 PSI directly into the cylinders through a series of holes in the cylinder walls (kind of like a two stroke?) and have a nearly wide open exhaust. Its mileage is an impressive 35MPG. Not bad for an internal combustion car, i.e., no hybrid here!!

You all know I'm a die-hard V8 man, but I certainly admire and respect innovation. I can see the day when a drive train from one of these cars ends up in a hot rod, eh??

Regards All,
Glenn
