i would have pushed that asshole into the mountain . that is a class 1 a moron driving that deuce.
I'm not so certain. Seems some other videos show the truckers playin' some games.. Even tho' they claim total innocence. In any event, driving like that can cause death. Gotta be aware of your surrounding and drive smart!
I drive hundreds of miles almost every day to jobsites in a little econobox Focus, I keep the cruise set about 65 : 68 usually and feel like I'm about to be run over and that's in the right lane! And a lot of the time it's impatient truckers hugging the back bumper trying to "entice" me to drive faster.
I'm not sayin' the driver of that 32 wasn't wrong! I just would love to hear the other side of the story.
I agree. Truck drivers can get uptight. I know, I was one for 8 years. It looks like the 32 slowed way down when he switched lanes. I don't think he saw the lane was going to end and the truck driver couldn't move over because of the 32. Al well, we are not all perfect. How did the truck driver know that guy sucked? Maybe they knew each other. (.)
Looked to me like the guy in the deuce knew full well what he was doing, evidenced by him flipping off the truck driver as they accelerated away. I've never driven a big rig, but I have utmost respect for their need for space and consideration, given the mass of the vehicle and the inertia involved, and that includes being aware if they're closing on a slower vehicle, setting up a passing opportunity only to have some moron pull out to pass them at the last moment.
i grew up in a white frieghtliner . i can tell you it is hard enough herding 80k down the road without idiots in cars getting in the way. lets see. the truck driver is trying to make a living, did nothing illegal but the prick in the 32 brake checked him just to be an ass. he should have put that spare in the back seat and then pulled the moron out and wailed on him. keep in mind there was another loaded truck right behind and probably cars behind him. had someone died it would be blamed on the trucker if not for the video .
Allow me to fill you guys in on some of the facts, that incident happened between Warkworth and Auckland here in NZ and a piece of road I have driven both in a Mercedes Actros tractor unit pulling a 4 axle semi and a light commercial vehicle. That piece of road is called the Pohuehue Viaduct and where the passing lane starts is at the bottom of a steep climb, the passing lane ends just before crossing the viaduct and then another passing lane on the other side. You will notice that the second truck dropped back enough to enable to increase speed leading into the passing lane, also the truck driver of the first truck was fully aware of what was going on as he flashes his indicator to the passing truck to say go for it. The passing truck had the speed and power to safely overtake and then immediately pull back over to allow the following traffic to pass. Now that dick/wanker/nerd in the '32 not only caused the truck to hit the brakes but also notice how he then causes the other vehicle across the centre line into the path of on coming traffic. Our motto for ALL members of the NZ Hot Rod Association is Dedicated To Safety since 1961, and this wanker in one moment of madness brings our hobby into disrepute. Most of our trucks in NZ are speed governed to between 90 to 100 kph as our roads ain't exactly build for anything greater then that.
Whip,
Thanks for the explanation. One thing that I always try to consider is that while many trucks look the same, a unique ride like that deuce is pretty easy to recognize days, weeks or months later, and paybacks can be "heck" if that trucker happens to see the guy in the petrol station, at a local cruise, or most anywhere else. One needs to consider that we're pretty "recognizable", and drive accordingly.
i think the video speaks for it's self. i hope it goes viral and runs this ass clown right out of streetrodding. i'm a little touchy on this since my pop drove for 51 years . it's a damn hard way to make a living .
We seem to always look one direction. Straight ahead.
Looks to me like the truck driver had enough speed to get past the other truck with no problems, BUT, there was a line of traffic behind him on a two lane road. The truck driver could have been courteous enough to let he cars past. As I sure as heck do not know the roads there, who knows when he would have had another opportunity to pass the other truck again. Coming from a family of truck drivers I can see both sides. No reason to pull in front of the truck and hit the brakes though. Lucky the truck did not eat him for lunch.
I see nothing wrong with what the truck did at that point (who know what might have happened earlier). The ones that get me are the ones that ride two feet off of your bumper (trying to intimidate you) and the ones on a four lane road (two lanes each way) passing another trucker that is going one or two miles an hour slower than them. Sometimes it takes a trucker a mile or two to pass another truck.
there is no more passing lanes after the second one over the viaduct and then the road travels down "Windy Ridge" then the road whines down a very narrow cliff face with a sharp hair pin corner half way down so the trucks would be down several gears and going quite slow descending down into a valley that has no straights long enough to pass a truck safely. At the other end of the valley the road climbs another hill into tunnels that is the start of the Northern Motorway into Auckland. The problem we have in NZ is that most drivers are impatient and must be first in the line of traffic at all costs. If I had been that truck driver, I think I would of given the '32 a nudge with my bumper enough to make him realise just what a dick he is. Oh truck drivers are just as entitled to use passing lanes as any other driver here in NZ and due to knowing the road as I do and he obviously does he made a damn good decision to overtake on that passing lane.
Right, wrong, or indifferent.....anyone who brake checks a truck and trailer is a flippin' idiot!!!!
I agree with everyone else, that guy is an idiot.
I will climb in on this too..What whip has said is accurate,,in fact I probably know that road even better than him,,but thats of no real consequences...While I dont know the trucker,I do know the truck in question has in excess of 640hp on tap,,and if you listen to the soundtrack,he only downshifts twice as he's passing the first truck..Yes,he could have waited behind the first truck, and held up even more traffic...Its a hard one..but I dont see too much wrong with what he did..And,yes,,I do know the 32 driver,,and quite honestly,I didnt think he would do that..Incidentally,,that was the weekend of our pre 49 nats,,He is a member of the hosting club..and there were 200 hotrods some miles back behind him..Unfortunately,we are a nation of impatient drivers,,and when people get stuck behind a truck,on our roads,,its very much a ''do or die''process,,more like ''do and die''actually..as they want to pass you where there is nowhere TOO pass,,often into oncoming traffic.. Most of the countries truckers are good,,courteous drivers, who average 2500-3000 km a week..(we have driving hour restrictions),and I have no probs sharing the road with them,,after all,I drove (small) trucks myself for a few years..But it is upsetting when they get blamed for something stupid, like this..
Incidentally, most truckers will signal car drivers,or whoever else is behind them,to pass when its safe, and usually only let a half dozen cars build up behind them,,but on our highways, there is quite often nowhere where a truck and trailer can pull over safely,,and this aggravates the impatience of a great many..
I'll put my 2c worth in here too.
I don't know that particular road as well as Whip and Robin do, but I have driven over it, and their comments about the road are bang on the mark.
I too know the driver of that '32, and the absolute stupidity of his actions surprised me; I wouldn't have thought he would do something like that.
And as Roger noted; that car is instantly recognisable anywhere.
He was in the wrong...no two ways about it.
Stupid stupid boy.
.
looks like he is going viral. by this time next week he will be know around the world as the worst streetrodder alive and well deserved.
rude idiot
would you believe there is a so called streetrodder defending this guy.
Hell, they're all driving on the song side of the road.
Shine,bud..there are a lot of rodders defending the guy..Mainly because,as I said before,,the average driver doesnt like being stuck behind a truck,,and therefore, they are deemed a nuisance..They seem to forget just how much of their everyday needs are delivered by truck in this country..As you can see in the video, others on the road are willing to put their own lives at risk by doing dorky passing manoevres to get around Mr streetrodder of the year,as well..
DMW56,,you might have a point there,,will see if we can change to driving on the other side.....Yeesh,,you think its bad now,,can you imagine what it would be like if we changed to the right hand side of the road......:eek::eek:
I saw comments going back over a month ago about this some where---looked like a major multicar crash was just barely averted right after the finger----thought I might even have detected some tire smoke off the suv rear tires
Funnily enough guys,I had asked on the NZ hot rod site where this was discussed, to what sort of reprimand the guy was to face through his own club and or the NZ association, as we are such a small country of 4 million people with approximately 3 to 4 thousand rodders, this incident certainly reflects on all of us. But sadly apart from saying it has been seen too,it appears that unless you are in that club or know the guy personally, it is to be swept under the mat and forgotten.
He might be talking about my comment. "Looking straight ahead"
I don't know what happened. I do know that there are two sides to the story. The T driver really got.....ticked off. In which made it sound really bad, but hey. I once was a driver. Back then you use to get tired with being able to get by with regulations. Back then! As for the person who stuck the hand out. Well, we still don't know the rest of the story. As Paul use to say.......
Hopeing someone will come up with it. Look at the time.
there is no defense in this. not only did the truck have to slam on it's brakes so did the following truck and cars. what if the truck jack knifed ? maybe taking out several cars and killing some people. with out this tape it would just go down as another trucker out of control kills family of 5 . the hwy was built for Commerce not joy riding. the second truck had plenty of power to pull the grade unlike the first truck.
Or he might be referring to my post. I also drove truck professionally for 18 years! Trash Trucks, Cement Trucks over 100K #'s, and even Brinks Trucks! Until Reagan "de-regulated" (but that's another story), But while I think the duece driver is contemptable for his action(s), I also do not know what drove him to those actions! The trucker(s) and the duece driver may have had reasons for what ever happened earlier that day but, we may never know!
But I don't believe that makes anyone less of anything for voicing an opinion! IMHO / YMMV / My Point Oh Two ? / yada yada yada
Guy was probably a CHECK WRITER poser of a hot rodder--has a BMW at his home
Me too!
Sorry.
I erased my next comment. Wonder what happened 10 minutes beforehand?
Happy rodding to all. Hopefully this won't happen again. Kinda gets people a little uptight.
I don't know about New Zealand, but the Interstate system in this country was not built for commerce, it was built for the military, at least that was Eisenhower's intention. I'm not standing up for the idiot in the video, but there are a lot of arrogant OTR drivers on the highways today, not at all like it was in the 60's.
Among other things I learned we all cuss the same language. Seems to me the trucker stayed as far left as he could for as long as he could. To me that shows he was doing as much as he could to let people by. I think our boy is just an a___ole
Yup...Number one,,,we dont want arguements on here about this..All I can say is that I didnt think he would do something like that,,but these situations bring out some interesting sights..:confused:But,in saying that,,I would not have thought he would have been willing to risk his 32 by doing that..Word out there is that he has been ''spoken to''by the club he is a member of..I have seen the guy since the incident,,and did not make mention of it,,for various reasons..The trucker, who I dont know,,is a friend of someone I do know,,and is not anti hotrodder,,in fact, quite the opposite..Even the rig he drives has had some ''refinements''..and he is,from what I know,a very nice guy,who earns his wage on the highway,,and like me,,gets peeved by arrogant drivers who expect him to get out of their way when it suits..This subject will go in circles forever..Everyone is going to have a different opinion on it...
No,Jerry,,I dont think he has a BMW...:D:D Has numerous American vehicles, though,,including a couple more fresh imports..
