Thanks for the well wishes. We are about 50 miles west of Branson. Didnt have any damage, but it sure was nasty for a while.
Good to hear that all is well with you and your family choppedchevy. We got the light show, sound effects and it rained like crazy for a while in Springfield and fortunately that was all.
Life in Tornado Alley, right guys?? We're headed into the season, and the location and severity are a freakin' crap shoot. All you can do is watch the weather and be ready to run to the shelter if a cell heads your way and keep the insurance paid. Worrying about the storms is not an option, at least for me....
Iam originally from kansas,Wichita and spent a lot of time in Topeka. Dorthy and Toto are always on my mind during tornado season.
I live on the southwest end of Springfield and most of the storms seem to like to travel following I-44 and since Springfield sits on sort of a plateau and I'm on one the highest points on that plateau they go around me to the south and north. I've witnessed more than a couple go right overhead my house and touch down generally east and south of me. My late wife, at the mere sound of a storm, would head for the Baptist church a couple of blocks away and ride out the storm in their basement, I was never so inclined. When it's my time to go hiding in a basement is not going to make any difference.
With that new radar system It should save more lives
My condolences to those that were caught in that storm.
I'm not convinced yet that the entire US isn't in one tornado alley or another. In the late '60s my parents home was lightly damaged as one came across Schenectady, NY, destroying a couple houses a few doors away as well as many others in town. Then about 10 years ago, one went over our neighborhood, sparing it completely, but destroying a new development a few miles away when it touched down
I saw some of this on last nights(thursday) news..Sounds like a lot of nasty stuff up there at the moment..Darn twisters all over the place..Stay safe guys..
We had four lives lost near Springfield, Mass last summer. I hadn't thought of twisters being in Mass., but I've since learned that it does happen each year.
