Gremlin 401-XR of 1972-74 was a 13 second car out of the box, and with Group 19 carb and ignition accessories could go into the 12s. Not as pretty as a COPO Camaro, but pretty don't win the 1/4 mile.

My 73 Nova
In 1977 I was looking for a car to drive back and forth to work. I happened to stop at my local Pontiac dealer (who now sells Fords) to check out his used car selection. Near the back row I spotted a 1973 Vega station wagon that looked promising. It was 4 years old with power steering(or power brakes, I can't remember which, but not both) AM/FM radio with cassette player, air conditioning, and automatic transmission. It had 46,000 miles on the clock. After fierce negotiations with the salesman I bought the car for $175. Did I mention that it also had rust holes big enough to stick your head through and smoked so bad that the rear view mirror was useless? I drove it for a year adding gallons of 50 weight oil and many cans of STP. I did like the way the car handled though and it was comfortable for me to drive. I'm over 6'2" tall. That car is my best memory of the 70s.
Very cool. Have to say the Vega looked a lot better than what rich people were buying in the '70s. By this I mean the Stutz Blackhawk and the Aston Martin Lagonda. Both hideous IMO, and strangely similar in styling. I assume they sold many of both to rich oil sheiks! (^-^)

Just cos you got dough, doesn't mean ya got taste!
When people look at my 69 442 their first question is always. Is it fast ? My standard answer is yes back in the day it was fast, but you have to understand that you can take a brand new Honda Civic off the showroom floor and run circles around any of the stock muscle cars of that era. :) Some understand, some don't.
I better clarify..Liked the comment,,not the car..They are as ugly as sin..I had the misfortune to take one from Auckland back down to New Plymouth, where we live..Thankfully,it went on the back of the truck that I used to drive..Ugly,,it looked like it was derived from a drawing that your average 5 year old did at school..:eek: And HEAVY..
C3 was one of the few cars which looked good with impact bumpers.

Yep, the cosworth was a nice little car, if you owned one, you knew the GM service manager by
their first name. They stayed in the shop for the first part of their life.
I was a service manager at a GM dealership, we had two in and out of the shop, funny they
never had the same problem, always stupid little things from vibration.
Solid running motors until you over tached one a couple times.......lol.
The Porsche 928 was one of the most futuristic cars of its era, finishing in 1995 with 350 hp and 170 mph. The downfall was that it did look a little like a squashed Pacer with Lamborghini Miura headlamps, lol.
