My old T has a new owner.

A man just posted on another forum that he bought my old 23 "Project $ 3K" last week. I guess he saw it listed on Ebay and won it. I'm really glad to see someone buy it who intends on driving and enjoying it, the guy I sold it to only put 500 miles on it in the last year and I think he bought it mainly to resell.

Kinda made me feel a little sad for a minute, it was a fun little ride, but I knew once my 27 was put back together it wouldn't get used much, so at least it is now owned by someone who will take care of it and is excited to have it. :)

He got a nice, well built little car Don. He's probably be interested in seeing the build thread where it all went together. Did you pass him the link?

As I recall when it was for sale wasn't there a lot of BS about it being a CA built car or something?

Thanks Mike. I tried to find the old project $ 3K thread and it is gone. I think it disappeared when we made the change, or maybe I am just not finding it.

Yeah, the first time the guy I sold it to tried selling it on Ebay he consigned it to a broker who fabricated this elaborate story about the car costing $ 40,000 to build, being built by a pro shop in California, having all these parts that I never used, etc. Some members on other forums called him and said BS, they knew the history on the car. This time the ad was a one liner and the only mistake was that he said it had a 700R trans instead of the real th350.

Sometimes I wish I still had it, but the saddest person was my Son Dan when it left. He really felt bad and he had put as much work in it as me, so I understand. But sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

Yeah, the new owner got a great car, built right for sure. I'd bet if he links up to your build thread he will have a case of "Perma-Smile" after seeing how much thought and skill went into the build.

Oh, thanks, Bob ! I'll forward that link to the new owner. Not sure where he lives, I forgot to ask him. A guy in Kansas City was interested in it at one time but I guess finances didn't work out as well as logistics.

Thank goodness....I pop in here from time to time and noticed he wasnt posting. I thought the worst but was afaid to ask. Well I have to say, I dont blame him. I used to be a fairly regular poster here untill the changes that were made here. I tried to get used to it, but crap, even now you cant just click on the forums. I had to go thru "back doors" just to get here to post! Too bad because this was one of my very favorite sites. Some of the most knowledgable and friendly people here. Plus there was never any of the head games and cyberbulling going on here. I wonder where he is hanging out now...I would love to share some thoughts with him.

Oh well I guess the powers that be have no intention of going back to the old format so I will just check in from time to time. Good luck guys and be safe!

Daniel, PM was sent, and regarding this site, your perception(s) aren't entirely accurate! We (as well as a number of sites) were attacked by some hackers and things got very goofy for a few days and evidently there have been some lingering effects! I have had the same issue as you but after clearing out the computers cache and the history files, all has been well.

I know you probably won't change your mind but I / We hope you'll continue to return and enjoy the hobby with us. As I said, if I can help you out, I will.. Just ask!

another site I spend a lot of time on went through some painful changes for a few weeeks at the same time as this one..Still go there,as I do here..I worked around the changes,and still enjoy it here..You guys are my extended family,on the other side of the world,,and I'm not going anywhere else..Unless I'm told to ''Apply myself to the trade of a taxidermist,in the opposite direction to 'on'..'':D:D

Thanks for the info. I really cant put my finger on it, but I just never could warm up to the new format. I know it was done awhile ago and other cites Im on have gone thru changes also. But for some reason this place dosent "feel" the same. It used to be my place to come to be with friends. A comfortable homey kind of feeling to it. Even though it was a slow moving forum, it kinda felt like a private club. Outsiders were always welcome and helped and respected, but the basic core was just a good ol bunch a coots swaping stories and ideas. It may still be that way, I dont know, but I just have a real mental block about the new looks and format that I just cant shake. I will still check in from time to time...but I hang out mostly at olskoolrodz and the corvetteforum. I dont care much for the HAMB and rarely if ever, post there. Mostly in their for sale area.

I never would have thought Don would have left this place and dont know the circumstances, but I do understand his not likeing the changes....I will stop in from time to time, and who knows, maybe I can still get used to it after all this time.

The old format was broke and non-repairable, change was the only choice. No fixing or patching left to it.

I guess I don't see where the format has a thing to do with the people and contents of a forum. Seen a lot of people come and go on CHR for a variety of reasons, just the nature of any public forum I guess. As with any change, the format change took a bit of getting used to, but the wealth of information and the "family" atmosphere here on CHR made making a few adjustments a non-issue for most.

After getting used to the new forum, I really haven't had any issues. I check the new posts threads each day and can usually keep up to date on things fairly easily. I am one who does not post a whole lot, but do enjoy the site. I think there is still a family atmosphere especially with those who are regular posters. I don't feel comfortable in jumping in on personal conversations and so usually do not. But overall, this is one of the easier sites that I visit.

Yep it's a little quieter here, with a little less banter than before. Don, Techinspector, Ken and many more have moved on, but we still Have quite a few regulars here. I think the economy has some of us holding off work while we prioritise money, but I still enjoy coming here just about every day and seeing what some of the build threads are doing, etc.

I will keep checking in here....It always was a good place to hang out! But I am soo busy lately, I really dont have much time to do the interweb. Just getting ready to open a new gun store next week along with my other jobs and hobbies so its gonna be a little hecktic for me for awhile.

I probably just didnt give the site a chance for me to get used to it. Ill give it another try.

We all understand. But the fact is, the software was outdated and there wasn't a choice! So there never was any choice of "going back".... Time marchs on and right over all of us!

We lost a few really key people over the change and sadly they haven't been back (yet?) so we hope you'll stick around. It's still the homey, slow paced, feel good group mostly..

anyway, check in from time to time, we'll be here and looking forward to hearing from you. :)

Good ol' M1's - looks like you have a nice one, especially if all the numbers match

My fond remembrance - sore right shoulder and seeing some of the guys in Basic with a well blackened 'M1 thumb'. Mine was a Smith-Corona*, made in 1944. I went to my 'permanent combat engineer assignment' and moved up (:o) to an M1 carbine pop gun

* Just did a Google and some 'authority' stated that S-C never made a Garand. They are wrong. Mine was a S-C as we kidded about it being a reclaimed typewriter the way it clattered when shaken.

Dave there were all kinds of manufacturers then. Some of my favorites were Winchester, International Harvester, Quality Hardware, Saginaw, Springfield Armory, Harrington Richardson, Irwin Pederson, National Postal Meter, Inland(which I believe is GM), and of course IBM! Not all made garands, some made the m1 carbines too!

Thanks I'm very happy with it. Now for the right m1 carbine to join the collection. Maybe if I get lucky I can find a 1903 that doesn't cost a arm and a leg!!!!!!!!!!
