Sounds like you folks there in the really deep South have the same problem we have - you can't pick and choose what you really want to watch. For me to get SPEED Channel, I need to subscribe to the "sports tier" which includes golf, tennis, basketball, rasslin' and hockey - none of which I want nor will watch.

We have been borrowing DVD series from our excellent library. We are up to date on MI5, Bones through season 4, 24, Monarch of the Glen and now we are watching the Mentalist. The @#$%ing commercials drive me to drink on most programs so after watching a couple of DVD episodes, off to either read or wander the internet for a couple hours before bed - and then we can start all over
