Bathurst is just around the corner and the US will get live coverage this year

looks like you guys will get to see the Bathurst 1000 live this year
NASCAR Legend To Lead SPEED’s Bathurst Team

THREE-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Darrell Waltrip is coming to Australia for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Waltrip, a recent inductee into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, will be part of SPEED’s commentary team that is winging its way ‘Down Under’ to cover the big race on October 8.

Waltrip, famous for his race-starting TV call of ‘boogidy, boogidy, boogidy, let’s go racing boys!’ will be joined by NASCAR FOX co-commentator Mike Joy, Aussie Leigh Diffey and former racer Calvin Fish in pit lane.

Waltrip and Joy are household names in the US for their work on FOX’s NASCAR coverage and both featured in the original ‘Cars’ animated movie as well as ‘Talladega Nights’.

“I’ve watched some of their races on SPEED and it’s some of the best racing I have ever seen,” Waltrip said of V8 Supercars.

“It is some of the most aggressive road course racing I have ever watched ... these guys don’t mess around. They race the entire race like the last 10 laps of a Cup race and I just watch with my jaw hanging open.”

SPEED will beam the race live back into the United States, complete with its own graphics package, and will also telecast the Armor All Gold Coast 600 live a fortnight later.

The signature events will also be broadcast live in Australia on Seven and live in full high definition on 7mate across the country, as well as in full HD throughout North America.

V8 Supercars Chairman Tony Cochrane says that having SPEED’s crew in Australia is a ringing endorsement for the series.

“These guys are the absolute best of the best,” Cochrane said.

“In North America and world motorsport these guys are seriously big names.

“Their voices are synonymous with sport and having them here is as much a coup as getting the very best drivers to come out, as we have also done for the Gold Coast 600.”

here is a little history on bathurst.

Charlie, between us and the Aussies,,there must have been thousands of engines and transmissions boxed up and sent down here..And the stuff is still coming in.,back in the late 80s/early 90s,one engine importer used to get a lot of Buick/Chevy V6s coming in..It was quite hard to get one off them, because most were going directly to Hamilton Jet company, for their boats..

here is an update from today for those who are interested, and a full lap and comentry from inside Greg Murphy's car from earlier today.
    cheers barnsey.

WITH qualifying completed at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, all but the top 10 grid positions have been locked down for the big race on Sunday.

Below is how the order sits after qualifying with the Shootout to come tomorrow to determine pole position.

Any post-qualifying penalties will obviously modify the order.

The slowest car will run against the clock first with the fastest qualifier to go onto the circuit last.

It's on Speed now----but I don't believe we've yet come to an agreement with our Aussie contingent to get them to keep Waltrip when the race is over...........

its been pretty tame so far, but anything can happen anytime in this race, the rain will make it interesting.

Well, thats gotta be one of the best finishes I have seen for a long time..Garth Tander must have felt real uncomfortable with Lowndes hauling up on him...A few more laps and he might have nailed it...The rain didnt amount to much,thankfully...

it was a great finish, the last 15 laps were great, i thought the rest of the race this year was a bit tame, it was good to see no bad injuries, and how quick did those fire marshals put that fire out, great job by those guys.
