Thread: Are automotive journalists not as jaded as us, or on the take?

I'm sure most of us here read the automotive magazines. Every time a new, and more powerful car appears, you hear phrases like "moves out like a rocket" or other such superlatives to describe the car's acceleration. My question is, have they never driven a vehicle with a less than 4 lbs per hp power to weight ratio, or are they schilling for the auto manufacturer? Seriously, the press I read on the 556 hp CTS-V would give one the impression that this Caddy would take out just about anything that came across its path. Except probably 25% of the rides on this forum. I've had my V for a little over a month, hit the rev limiter once in 1st, and have pulled full boost/throttle in 3rd, 4th, and 5th, and though fast for a 4250 lb car, does not come anywhere close to what the T, and a lot of rides here on this forum can do. So, well informed forum members.....

Is the typical auto magazine journalist lacking in driving truly fast cars like ours ?

Do they follow the company line of glowing reviews for the advertisers in the magazine?

From what I have heard & read Cadillac ain't your grandmothers car anymore and it's very apparent.

hard to beat a car that makes past 400 to 500+ hp and come with a warranty .my friend has a caddy and they go ... i told him it would beat most all street car around town but not mine but he knew that ... i have not gone for a ride with the new kooks EX on it .as i get older i could live with it . the car works well and can take a curve .could a guy build a street rod to work as good yep buy the caddy cut and glue parts on a older shell

OK, you hit upon the point I did forget to mention, with the magnetic CPU controlled ride, it corners very good, yet some how has a smooth ride. I do like that about my V, but as far as how the automotive journalists describe acceleration, you would think they never spent any time in a true hot rod. As much as I do like my V (I've never been more pleased with any other new car purchase), when it comes to acceleration, not even close to the T or a lot of rides right here on this forum.

"Fast" is a relative, subjective word. My DeVille is fast, but not AS fast as my 27. By the same token, my 27 is not as fast as a 9 second drag car, but that drag car is not as fast as a Top Fuel car. Nor is that Top Fuel car as fast as a......................
