Leaving,But not without a fight ???

I have often wondered if these cars we create and build have fellings. This is unreal.

I listed the coupe on ebay last week and it sold, after coming and looking and driving a couple of times we decided to do the deal. He only lives about 15 miles from me. An hour after he left he calls back and says hey the thing developed a rattle in the engine compartment and I nursed it home. Being an ex dragster driver and mechanic he analyzed the problem right away and said the alternator nut holding the pully and fan had come loose. I said let it cool and give me an address and I'll come up and we'll talk. I got there and he was ready to pull the alternator and go get it re-tourqued,me (felling awful) wanted to reverse the deal and he said hey no way. I said let me get it back to the house and i'll take care of the problem,no way he said.

We pulled the alternator and took it to O'Reilys and got it re-torqued. This morning we are finishing up. I am like thinking did the "Lil 34" say hey I aint leaving without making some noise. :o :o

So whats the next project

Anyone who has played with mechanical things for a while knows only too well they have a mind of their own sometimes. You can own something for years, use it daily, and if you sell it the new owner gets a block away and something goes wrong.

I had something like that happen when Steve and Sue visited from England. I took Sue for a spin in my 23 and as soon as we pulled out onto the highway the front end started to shake a little, like out of balance badly. It had never happened before, and once we got back it never happened again ! :confused: I think it was jealous there was another woman in the car.......................shades of Christine !!!!!!!:eek:

For now I'm going to take a breather and finish getting the house ready for the spring market. We like many other older couples ( Kids Gone) have to much house to maintain, so down sizing is in order. I can't stand these 300.00 water bills that Austin is putting out and is expected to go higher.

I like yello-mello's idea of a truck that maybe requires less work to set up. I like the 55 GM design a lot. I have a 2011 Chevy Extend Cab Stepside I might try to doll up. The only problem it's not going to be a Hot Rod per say.

Don I had a boat once in the keys I picked up for 25 bucks. It litterally looked like a complete redo under leaves and such. Well after about 4 hours of cleanup, I began to wonder. 2 hours later planing at about 35 knots, I was grinning. I nursed that baby for 6 months and it never failed me. I repainted the hull and deck and spruced it up, everyone just seem to like it. At the end of my work years I sold it for 500 bucks, reluctantly to a guy nobody like who we worked with. I heard 6 weeks later it thru a rod 7 miles off shore, and stranded him, to be towed back in. I guess some of our cars and boats like certain people better than others!

Gee, this is like "deja vu all over again". I swear that "things" have individual "personalities". Too many times in my life, I have had this scenario play out, one way or the other: I had a '57 Chevy that gave me nothing but trouble, and I finally unloaded it for cheap to a young Marine who wanted that car and swore he would make it work, come he** or high water. He rotated to Pendleton, and a couple of years later, he was back in "The Stumps", Chevy and all. When I finally got to talk to him, he said he loved that car, it had never let him down or given him a minutes trouble. Go figure.

Haha, I bought a car like that one time. The guy had nothing but trouble with it, replaced almost every part on the car to keep it alive. I bought it and never had a lick of problems. Everytime I would see him he would say "You're kidding me, the car is still running ok??" I guess he replaced the last bad part just before I got it. :LOL:

Sigh.
In my case I was the guy that replaced all the knobby bits.
We had a four-wheeled farm bike that I bought at a clearing sale; it gave me nothing but trouble.
After twelve months of seemingly working on the damned thing before being able to use it, I got so fed up with it I gave it to a mate to use for spare parts.
He kept it nearly ten years, used it regularly, and never laid a spanner on it.
Sigh.

Johnboy, the funniest part was that the guy I bought that Buick from was a customer of mine and every time he would come into the store after I bought the car he would kind of sneak around because he was afraid I was going to chew him out for selling me a lemon. After the first couple of years and me telling him it ran like a clock he started being the one who was unhappy with me ! :LOL: I actually think he felt I was lying when I said we had no problems with it. :LOL:

I ended up selling it to my Son Don, after we used it for years, and he had it for a long time, still with no problems. But usually I am the one who ends up spending a fortune to keep a car alive and the next guy only puts gas in it as long as he has it.:(
